    1. [NCUNION] NC to ARK
    2. I recently received a large file on my MURPHY family of Union Co., AR. In going through it, I found the following Union Co., NC people who married into my Union Co AR., MURPHY family. They are: 1. Henry Wilson NASH, b. 12/13/1871, Monroe, Union Co NC, (son of Soloman NASH and Susan Elizabeth Greene) m. Eudoria Lucindia PERRY . Henry died. Oct 25, 1941, Monroe, Ouachita Parish, LA. 2. Luther Sylvester HELMS, b. 5/21/1887, Wingate, NC, . (son of Benjamin Franklin HELMS, 1856-1926, and Mollie Tilisher FESTERMAN, 1864-1940 ) m. Annie Elizabeth MURPHY. Luther died 4/30/1944. As you probably know, many Union Co NC families removed to AR, including my HANEY family. My MURPHY line is not from NC. I have more information about the families of the two NC people mentioned above. If they are related to you, let me know and I will be happy to send it to you. Mary Nesbitt Garrison SC

    2. Norma W Matthews
    3. Norma W. Matthews Researching family of Daniel Winchester b. 25 Dec 1752 VA came to the Meck/Union area ca 1760-70 with brother Douglas. Douglas -m- Sarah Matthews ca 1772, Daniel -m- Rose Matthews (reported to be sisters). Douglas and Daniel's mother very possibly was Sarah Kezziah. Daniel left Union Co ca 1820 for TN, settling in Hardin Co by 1830, he died there in 1839. George T. Winchester reported that Douglas and Daniel married the Matthews sisters. After Daniel died his wife applied for a Widows Pension, in that application she stated her name as Rosanna. An old friend of hers (age abt 79) made a deposition and stated that Rosanna's maiden name was Ashley. Does anyone know if (1) Daniel -m-Rose Matthews, then (2) Rosanna Ashley, or was Rosanna an Ashley who married a Matthews then married Daniel. I realize that contradicts what George T. Winchester said, but I surely would like to know. Daniel had a dau. named Peggy b. abt 1786, and a son named John b. abt 1787, does anyone know anything about them? Pat Deese has done a wonderful job with the Douglas Winchester family, but I'm from Daniel--and really need help here.

    1. [NCUNION] Notes found
    2. Note: Obituary of James Adam Helms from Watson Primitive Baptist Church Records. James Adam Helms Whereas, our beloved brother, James Adam Helms, has fallen asleep in Jesus, and now in body is resting from all his sufferings, sorrow, and labors of this world. Not withstanding that his soul and spirit has returned to Him who gave it, we deeply regret the parting of this good man. Be it Resolved, That we, the membership of Watson Church, humbly bow to be submissive to an all-wise, heavenly Father in the death of a dear brother. He was born Sept. 15, 1976; passed away July 15, 1954; making his natural life on earth seventy-seven years, and ten months. Brother Helms was married to Miss Rettie Hargett on Dec. 16, 1937, who is left to mourn his passing. He united with Watson Primitive Baptist Church November 21, 1936. He was truly a devoted member; even after the amputation of one leg he would go to church whenever possible. He loved the Old Baptist doctrine of salvation by the grace of God. He firmly believed in the resurrection of the body. The funeral services were held at Watson Church, by Elder C. M. Mills and Elder E. H. Simpson. Many relatives and friends paid their last respects to this good man. Resolved, That a copy of these resolutions be sent to his wife, along with our heart-felt sympathy; a copy to THE PRIMITIVE BAPTIST for publication, and a copy placed upon the Church Record. Done by the order of Watson Church (torn) in conference. Elder C. M. Mills, Mod. (C. M. Mills of Charlotte, North Carolina, Watson Church pastor)
