Union County was formed from part of Mecklenburg and part of Anson Counties in 1842. The 1850 Union County Census was their first. So your Osborn probably IS the one who formerly lived in Mecklenburg.
Could you please e-mail that again. I inadvertently deleted it. thank you' Joy Skipper Hinson

I was wondering if anyone has ever seen this Salathiel Helms? He would be in the 1880 census if someone would be kind enough to look it up. This is all I have on him. I can't shed any light on the questions, both could be possibilities. I know your quest is challenging. I guess all genealogist must really love a good puzzle. The book I referenced is the Union County North Carolina Marriages 1843-1899 compiled by Frances R. Small. I don't know if she has any more of this edition. It was self-published in 1986. Her address is 605 Craig Street, Monroe, NC 28110. This information is excerpted from the marriage records in the Union County Register of Deeds office, 500 N. Main Street, Monroe, NC 28110. Good luck and if you think I can be of any other help, please let me know. ---------- > From: MS IDA M THOMAS <EAYM28A@prodigy.com> > To: NCUNION-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [NCUNION-L] REDFEARN > Date: Tuesday, December 08, 1998 5:02 PM > > Thank you so much for the information. Thank you so much for the information. It certainly added possibilities and leads. I noticed that several couples share the same last name. I can conclude two things by this: 1. That they had already assumed the name of the spouse prior to reporting their cohabitation. 2. That they were on the same plantation and they both assumed the masters last name. Can you shed any light on this? Also would be interested in your source document for this information and is it something I can obtain? Chris- I ordered from them and got the surname history for my parents for Christmas last year. It came pretty quick, is very thorough (historically covered a lot of areas), and made a nice gift I thought. It's an odd size length-wise and it isn't a standard frame size, so if you do not purchase the frame online, you'll have to either fold a tiny (mm-size) crease at the bottom (won't cut off any info) or have a mat cut large enough that it would fit into a larger frame. The print quality of the crest wasn't that great, just looks like a ink-jet print job, but that was the only dissapointment. I assumed that it would be embossed or something. Ironically, they have a lot of uncommon names, but not common names. The one I got was for my maiden name- Eason, and they had it. I tried to get one for my married name- Young, and they didn't.
