Hello; I am also the coordinator for the W.W.II part of the North Carolina GenWeb Military project. If any of you are W.W.II veterans or have W.W.II veterans in your family, I would like to include information about you or them on the NC in W.W.II page. Take a look at the pages and if you have anything to contribute I would be grateful. The pages are located at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncwwii/NC-WWII.htm Thanks Randy Godfrey Union Co. The web page about the 1890 census mentioned by Cathy Cranford-Ailstock is very interesting and worth reading. It's amazing we have as many surviving records as we do. The page is at: http://www.nara.gov/publications/prologue/1890cen1.html Randy Godfrey
Julie; I'm afraid there is no 1890 Census for Union County. It is my understanding that it was destroyed by fire. Maybe someone who is more knowledgeable about what happened to it could fill us in. Randy, The 1890 census, for the most part, was destoryed in 1923 by a fire in a Federal warehouse. Some minor parts of a few states were saved. There is a web page that explains all this, but I can't find it just now. I will look again. To all who wonder about the fate of the 1890 census, here is a wonderful site that will explain in great detail what happened and what survives of the 1890 census. The census on the Union Archive site is a partial census, am hoping to have it in its entirety soon but am presently working on the Montgomery County 1850 census and am posting at the Montgomery Archive site. If anyone has census pages that they would like to add to the partial Union census on the Union archive site, please feel free to contact me and or e-mail me the pages. Hi, I just clicked the census and the first time it came back saying the same thing. I waited a few minutes, clicked it again and have the file. Must have something to do with the transfer, maybe they are working on something. Just keep trying. It does open. As I earlier said, no Ogburn in 1860 Union County census. In 1870, however, there was one family: W. C. Ogburn 30, L. A. 27 (f), I.F. 7 (f), M.J.E. 5 (f), E.V. 3 (f); Elizabeth 1/12; N. S. 22, Merchant; Little, Margaret 50 (B); Lucy 7 (B) ---------- > From: Chris Reeder <creeder@taylordata.com> > To: NCUNION-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [NCUNION-L] 1860 census lookup PLEASE > Date: Monday, January 04, 1999 2:26 PM > > I was wondering if some would be kind enough to lookup a Ogburn family > in the 1860 Union Co., NC census.
