    1. Re: [NCUNION-L] Eli Pressley; Rogers or Robersons
    2. FYI-----I have Robinson's and it has been interchanged with Robertson, Roberson, Robison etc. So don't just stop there. I think my Robinson's came through Anson on the way to SC, probably brothers and uncles I'm unaware as yet. I have concentrated on SC. I know some are also in Mecklenburg but haven't made the connection as yet. Good Luck Joy

Among these was a two part listing of the descendants of Eli Pressley (who was my great grandfather), compiled by a lady named Sherrin whose address as best as I am able to recall was Indian Trail. I once had copies of these but lost them some years ago along with much of my other data. If anyone can furnish copies of these columns or can point me in the right direction to find them, I would be most appreciative. 2. Chris, David Simpson, b. 1828, d. 1852, was the son of John Simpson, b. 1790, d. 1842, m. Polly Rodgers (no dates). John was the s/o William Simpson, b. 1752, in Northern Ireland, d. 1821, buried in Simpson Cemetery* who m. Martha Orr, b. c.1754, also in Ireland, d. 1832. They were married in Ireland and had eleven known children, Elizabeth, James, Mary, Robert, William, Margaret Harriette and Thomas, twins b. 1784, Martha, b. c.1786, Jan and John c.1790, and David, b. 1799. The first three children were born in Ireland. Both William and Martha Orr Simpson arrived in America just prior to the start of the Revolutionary War. William joined the Militia and served, but I have no further info on this. The family lived in Goose Creek, Union county, NC. The Simpsons were one of the earliest pioneers to settle in this area, settling on Four Mile Creek in Mecklenburg Co., NC in 1773. The first three of his and Martha's children were born in Ireland. *I have visited the graves of William and Martha which is in the middle of a field near the creek. The cemetery is overgrown with shrubbery, trees, and is protected by a chain link fence. It is situated down a dirt road off Rte. 601 beside the creek. There are other graves in this cemetery. Many of the stones are disintegrating. Someone has installed new stones for the Simpsons. Margaret Harriette m. John C. Cuthbertson, who is my paternal ggggrandfather. Anne

    3. Dale, This is an abstract of an article that I had printed in the Carolinas Genealogical Society Bulletin (Union Co, NC) last year. The reason that you haven't found a marriage bond for them is that they were married in Anson Co, and a fire at that Courthouse (about 1867-68, I think) destroyed most of the early records. Hope this helps. Julie 1882 Pensioner List of Union and Anson Counties, NC With additional genealogical notes Abstracted from the book: Pensioners on the Roll, January 1, 1883, ....As called for by Senate Resolution of December 8, 1882, Volume 5, Genealogical Publishing Company, Baltimore, 1970. Additional genealogical data from other sources. Regardless of where these persons lived during their time of service, or their husbands service, they applied for a pension from the following counties. UNION CO, NC Susan DEASON applied from Monroe as a widow who's husband served in the War of 1812 she received the monthly rate of $8.00 beginning on Jul 1873. 3. Sometime back in the 60s, the Monroe paper carried a series called Our Heritage, devoted to genealogical information regarding Union County families. Among these was a two part listing of the descendents of Eli Pressley (who was my great grandfather), compiled by a lady named Sherrin whose address as best as I am able to recall was Indian Trail. I once had copies of these but lost them some years ago along with much of my other data. If anyone can furnish copies of these columns or can point me in the right direction to find them, I would be most appreciative. Doug Norwood Doug Norwood

    3. Thanks so much. You have done several lookups for me... Thanks again. Does the marriage book have a father and mother for David Simpson?
