Hi! If you did the transcription back in 1958, of this cemetery, would you mind passing the info along to me so that I may put it up on the Union Co. USGenWeb Archive site? If anyone else has done transcriptions of Union Co. Cemeteries that would like to submit them, I would love to have them! Even partial listings. The URL of Union Co. Archives is: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nc/union.htm Sincerely, Cathy Cranford-Ailstock Windwalker@gowebway.com ----- Original Message ----- From: <MTomlin615@aol.com> To: <NCUNION-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, April 26, 1999 11:02 PM Subject: [NCUNION-L] Wesley Chapel and Fincher Cemeteries > > Can anyone out there tell me how to go about getting help restoring > cemeteries, > or who takes care of Wesley Chapel cemetery? I didn't do the transcription in 1958, but I live near the Wesley Chapel cemetery and could do it now. I have the book by Clara Laney which lists those buried there. Some of the markers are now missing, destroyed, etc. My sister and I did the Fincher cemetery so I can give you those, also made pictures of the markers. There are also markers that are missing, etc. These were also recorded in 1958. Ms. Laney listed those buried upto 1914. Sharon

HELLO, BARBARA. We Helms have a sense of humor toooooo. Joy
Can anyone out there tell me how to go about getting help restoring cemeteries, or who takes care of Wesley Chapel cemetery? There are graves that need to be filled in and markers that need repair. The old FINCHER cemetery is located off Newtown Road on Crane Road. It is at the back of a field in a grove of trees. It is in SAD condition. The markers are broken, lying flat, many missing. I have a list, recorded in 1958, of those that are buried there. Some of the markers can still be read and could be reset. It is just hard to get back to the cemetery (impossible to walk in with cement, shovels, etc.). We would need a 4 x 4 to reach it. The land is presently in real estate and has a chain across the entrance. The agent said he would meet with us and unlock the chain to let us pass. Thanks for any suggestions or comments.
Eddie, Seriously, every other person in Anson/Mecklenburg/Union County, NC are either directly related to, or married into the Helms Clan. Go to this website: http://genforum.familytreemaker.com/ key in "Helms" (without the quotations marks) and post a query. You'll get lots of help. Anne
My name is Eddie Helms and I live in Monroe. I have recently started researching my family's roots. I don't know exactly how to about it. I've been to the Heritage Room at the old courthouse but didn't find any info that I didn't alredy have. My father's name is Roger Dale Helms (b. 9/6/58) and my grandfather's was Lonnie Wilson Helms (b. 12/19/13, d.10/6/86) . If anyone can help, please e-mail me. If anyone thinks they may be related, by all means, let me know!! Thanks! Eddie

THIS HAS GOT TO BE A JOKE. NOBODY LIVES IN UNION COUNTY EXCEPT HELMS. ........JUST A JOKE. BUT, BEING OF HELMS DESCENT MYSELF, I KNOW "MOST" OF ALL THE PEOPLE ARE HELM, KEZIAH OR PRESLEY. ANY ONE OF THOSE NAMES WILL TAKE YOU EXACTLY WHERE YOU WANT TO GO. I AM SORRY THAT I DO NOT HAVE YOUR LINE SO THAT I COULD GIVE IT TO YOU, ALTHOUGH I MAY HAVE IT AT SOME POINT. I'M JUST BEING FUNNY...HOPE YOU CAN APPRECIATE A LITTLE HUMOR. THE TURMOIL WITH THOSE 3 FAMILIES AND UNRAVELING THEM CAN BE QUITE A CHALLENGE. JOY
I am trying to contact others working on the GAY family of Union County. I am hoping that my line from SC is connected to this same family since the names seem to match very closely. There is a GAY family cemetery out on NC 207, between Trinity and Altan, that is still well-maintained. Does anyone know about this cemetery and this family? I am descended from Nathaniel GAY [1812-1891] who lived in Kershaw/Lancaster County, SC and was married to Margaret J. WILLIAMS. Any/all help "greatly" appreciated.
