Greetings folks, I was born and raised in Winston-Salem NC, but have settled in Dover DE. It is interesting to see where everyone is living that is doing Union County research. My research centers around the GODFREY family and the Waxhaw Baptist Church. I've been fortunate to meet several new found cousins through this list, and trust I'll meet more. Can you believe I lived in Mint Hill for a year, but that was before I got the Genealogy bug? All that information so close, and didn't have a clue! Later, Phil Brown
I'm way out in Oregon, but ancestors were all around the mountains of NC, VA, TN, GA, and SC. Trying to connect my STARNES's to those of Union Co. through John STARNS/STARNES who married Sarah Jane ADAMS and moved to Hawkins Co., TN, about 1800. Anyone help? Charles Ed Starnes
I have lived in Union County all my life and can't think of a finer place to be. I enjoy my travels, but always glad to come home. -----Original Message----- From: Mr. Make Believe <Demon_@webtv.net> To: NCUNION-L@rootsweb.com <NCUNION-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Monday, May 03, 1999 3:49 PM Subject: [NCUNION-L] local residents how many people on this mailing list actually live in Union County???
Raaiders@aol.com wrote: > > I'm in Redding, CA > > Jeannie Phifer > PHIFER, COX, PARKER, BROOM, BURGESS (just for starters) Hi, I'm in California too researching Union County. My ggrandmother's first husband (she married three times) was Hurley Pfifer. He died or something happened before 1869 because she (Mary Melissa Pfifer Harrell Holmes) married her second husband. Hurley and Mary had one child that I know of Nancy J. Pfifer b. 1865. Any connections? Mary Roseville, CA
I am Ken Eason. I live in Union County, NC as did my parents. Most of my line was in Union County when it was formed. I am not a Helms descendent, however, I have cousins, aunts and uncles in various greatness that have married into the Helms line. I saw someone's message a few days ago that they were in Union County Arkansas. They were descendents of the Haney's that moved from Union County, NC to Union County AK. I am a descendent of the Haney's that stayed behind. William "Billy" Spears Haney is my 3rd great-grandfather. His daughter Elizabeth Haney married Thomas Lee Eason. At the time of Elizabeth's death in 1906 their son John Eason was living in Union County, AK. This according to the Estate Papers of Elizabeth Haney Eason. John Eason died on October 29, 1945 in Union County, NC. Death certificate shows him as a widower. We have no record of any marriage or children. To the person in Union County, AK. Do you have any record of this person. I think it might be possible that he may have lived with his mothers family there. Thanks. Contact me at Keason@ibm.net Ken Eason

We have researched all of our family lines from there, except that of my mother's side - WILLIAMS - which is very hard to do. I have some data, but have yet to get into the DUNCAN, CROWELL (I have received extensive data but have not gotten through it all as yet), BIVENS (also received lots of data), and KISIAH families yet. I have visited Monroe twice for delving into records and have been helped so much by THE HERITAGE ROOM. The Monroe Public Library also has lots of books on families and genealogical data. Everyone there is so helpful and nice. Other family lines are: CUTHBERTSON, BROOM, RUSSELL, GINGLES, MORRISON, SIMPSON, BENTON, CONDER, ORR, GRIFFIN, HELMS, SECREST, PRESLAR/PRESSLEY, TRULL, WHITLEY, DEBERRY, and WISE. Anne, The lines you mention as those you are researching is interesting and includes at least four lines of my wife's: Williams, Cuthbertson, Broom, and Griffin. Her Williams line descends from Joseph Williams, (1737-1826) who migrated to the Wingate area prior to 1800 from eastern N.C.; his son Lemuel Williams (1789-1883) who married Rhoda Elizabeth Cuthbertson. She traces her Griffin line to Ollin Griffin (1806-187?) who was married to Olsie Broom. Do you have any information on the parents of Rhoda Cuthbertson, the parents of Ollin Griffin, and those of Olsie Broom? I hope I have not asked you this before, but I may have; if so, I apoligize. Anne, You must get with me when you get to "KEZIAH" is how we spelled it. My great grandmother Mary Jane Keziah b. 1859 Union Co., NC d/o Thomas Allison Keziah and Elizabeth Shelby who is a Trull descendant. I also have Presley, which I have just had confirmed last week. I have Hargett's, Brooms and Helms. I also have Skipper from Rockingham to Union Co. This is my father's side of the family. He still lives in Charlotte, rather Mint Hill now. In fact, just near him are two streets that are parallel to each other named Keziah and Hargett. He is probably living on ancestral land.....Medlin's married many times into the families I listed. Good luck. Looking forward to hearing from you on the Keziah's. You probably have more than I. Joy Skipper Hinson
There are no Henson, Hudson, Lee or Campbell surnames in the database. As an aside, I have just realized that this file does not really contain as many Helms as I had thought . . . there are as many Secrests. It is a small file, but if I can be of further help with it, will be happy to.
