David, I live in western Union Co. and I know where Crooked Creek is. I have an ancestor who lived on Crooked Creek. I have tried to trace some titles back, but it is hard for me. I am trying to learn how. If you tell me the name you are looking for maybe I can help. I don't know when I will go to the court house again, but I will keep your name in mind. Sandra Secrest Glenn

Over several years, I've narrowed down my ancestor's homestead (ca 1780-1820) to an area in western Union (Mecklenburg) between the two forks of Crooked Creek. I have several deeds that reference adjacent property owners at the time, but the property references are pretty vague. Anyone familiar with title searches or deed research in Union this far back? I'd really like to nail down the property as closely as I can. Any advice from those in the area on the best way to proceed? Many thanks, David Stancil - Chapel Hill

To bad but certainly true about all the mistakes on the LDS site. This is going to cause major problems with some folks, I am sure. ALOT of my family has mistakes...a wife dying before she was married, for instance! JOY
Hello Everyone: I want to issue a warning concerning the new Mormon family search system recently on-line. http://www.familysearch.org, is just riddled with errors. Please be careful My surname, Weddington, and my Mother's surname, Broome (Broom) has caused me to send this message to you. Since I had already had a significant amount of information from the North Carolina, Mecklenburg and Union Counties census and archive records, when I ran the checks thru the family search system, I realized right away that their information was incorrect. Each listing of data is provided with a "Provider" who apparently submitted the information to the Mormon History Center. I am told that each of the "providers" were selected without any prior experience in genealogy and the information they submitted to Salt Lake City was not checked with state and county systems. So, I am asking you to please check out thoroughly whatever info you get from the familysearch system. Warm Regards, William (Bill) Weddington Billprog@AOL.com
