    3. Life at archives has been a bit odd lately and we are all trying to re-group and figure out what we have and what to do with it. Guess what we found in the closet. A book of surveys from the 1820s!!!!!!! We don't know who the surveyor was yet or what all the info is. It is in a hand sewn leather book and contains the legal descriptions of all the properties he surveyd and the names of the people he surveyed for and dates. Even a couple of maps. The book is rolled up like it lived in someone's pocket and has gotten wet a few times. The writing is remarkably legible given the time period. But it so old that as soon as we figured out what it was we figured out we shouldn't handle it. We will be sending it to state archives for preservation work and we probably won't get to really see what is in there for a few months. Can't wait. -- Linda Hoxit Raxter http://www.rootsquest.com/~alextree lraxter@citcom.net Western North Carolina Cemeteries and More!
