    3. The Ruth Bump Glazener Research Notebook at the Historic Properties Commission Archives is 332 pages long (with my new Table of Contents). At 15 cents a copy - it gets pretty expensive. So I cashed in my brownie points and gained permission to sneak it out just long enough to take it to a cheaper copier machine. That's a lot of brownie points. Lots of Glazeners with lots of transcribed documents. And since the early families were so friendly, there are lots of Gillespies, McCalls, Kitchens, Whitmires, etc. Ruth did her research in the 1960s & 70s - Before computers so it's not the best organized collection since she kept sticking in more pages. Certainly not coffee table material, but for obsessive genealogists it's perfect. I don't know if she was planning to publish a book or not. Archives apparently inherited all of her research. They have this copy of her "Glazener Notebook" as well as personal Glazener correspondence and little notes if you ever get a chance to visit. Whatever her intention, I don't think it was to lie forgotten in a file cabinet - though it is a better fate than forgotten in an attic. If anyone would like a copy - I can do it cheaper than they can. 10 cents a copy, sales tax since I live here, a box and postage come to $39.20. Just mail to Linda Raxter, PO Box 418, Rosman, NC 28772. I'll pack up my copy and head to the cheap copy machine next weekend. And if you have other ancestors in the county, I am working on sorting out all those files so they will be more user friendly for folks visiting from out of town with only a couple of hours to complete their research. I hope to eventually get things straightened out to where you can mail order copies of the files you need direct from Archives. This will take a lot of sorting. -- Linda Hoxit Raxter lraxter@citcom.net See Indexed Western North Carolina Cemetery Surveys http://www.geocities.com/~alextreehouse related to at least half the county - at least once ; )
