If any of these match, or are related, I can try to track back through censuses to the general point where the name changed and see if we can narrow the choices.

They had a son William Gibson, b. ca. 1830, who married an Elizabeth Turner, b. ca. 1831, KY. This information from an unknown source posting information at Ancestry.com's One World Tree. Now, guessing again, I would say that William Gibson, b. 1805, died and his widow Martha remarried to a McSwain. And the William McSwain in the household at the time of the census I mentioned is Martha's brother-in-law. And the Gibson children are Martha's children by her first marriage. As for the Ann Turner, head of household where we find Sarah (nee ?) Gibson in 1870, I would guess her to be the mother or aunt of who may be Sarah Elizabeth Turner, b. ca. 1836, wife of William Gibson, b. ca. 1830. Phew. I had to chart that out to keep track of it. I didn't see any other Wigginses in the tree, but they may have been connected some other less apparent way before the Fidella Wiggins/Roseta marriage.

My guess is Sarah may be the daughter of Ann Turner. In 1860, Sarah and daughters Mary and Nancy are living with Sarah's husband William G. Gibson, age 30 (or 31?), farmer, also born in NC. In 1850, William Gibson, age 21, with Lucretia Gibson, age 18, Melissa Gibson, age 15, and then younger apparent siblings Oliver, Katherine, Drury, Dulcinea, are living in Cleveland Co. NC, household headed by Martha McSwain, age 45, b. loc unkn; at the end of the list of household residents is William McSwain, age 55, b. SC. Someone may have a ready answer as to whether Polk Gibson, William Gibson, etc., are related to the Wigginses...in the meantime, I would say that Angeline Gibson appears to have been the mother-in-law of Fidella Wiggins. How Angeline or her father Henry are related to James R. Polk Gibson or his father William...? I'll keep checking to see if I can discover the link. I am sure there is one.

    3. Hi- What a great project! Below are three pieces of information to look at: 1. CENSUS ENUMERATION: On Apr 17, 1930, "Westle Johnson," was enumerated in the Nantahala Twp., Swain Co., NC household of his grandparents, John R. and Rosa C. Johnson. Here's a transcription of information from a digitized image of that census enumeration: Johnson, John R. HEAD OF FAMILY Owned the dwelling; Male, White, 70 years old; Age at first marriage: 24y; born NC; father born NC; mother born NC; Occupation: Farmer-Truck Farm Johnson, Rosa C. WIFE Female, White, 6 years old, Age at first marriage: 21 years; born TN; father born NC; mother born TN Johnson, Bessie DAUGHTER Female, White 34 years old, Single, born NC; father born NC; mother born TN Johnson, Siamon SON Male, White, 26 years old, Single, born NC; father born NC; mother born TN Johnson, Mack SON Male, White, 23 years old, Single, born NC; father born NC; mother born TN Johnson, Horace GRANDSON Male, White, 7 years old, Single, born NC; father born NC; mother born NC Johnson, Westle GRANDSON Male, White, [?] 2/12 years old [couldn't read the first numeral - but he was probably quite young, as fractions were usually used for infants and toddlers], born NC; father born NC; mother born NC Johnson, Nalnie [? this name difficult to read] GRANDDAUGHTER Female; White, 6 years old; born NC; father born NC; mother born NC Here's the source for the above information: 1930 U.S. Federal Census: Nantahala Twp., Swain Co., NC. Enumeration District No. 87-8. Dwelling #241: Johnson, John R. April 17, 1930. Sheet No. 14A. CAUTION: Census information is really neat, but it can contain errors. Also, the transcriber can make errors, because the original was done in handwriting that is often difficult to read. It's a good idea to use other sources to validate what you get on any census enumeration. 2. 3. If your mother was a waitress at Nantahala Village , she will know about the Tabor house on the Nantahala Village property. This house and the Nantahala Village Resort property once belonged to my husbands grandfather and great-grandfather. His grandfather lost everything during the depression. His great-grandparents are buried on the side of the mountain below the Tabor house. His grandparents were George Henry and Virgie Allen Tabor.
