I have gotten stuck at a certain point, unfortunately, both in extending the line back and in filling in blanks for siblings of the direct ancestor(s). I wonder if we might share notes and see if there is any connection between your and my friend's families. "My" Johnson line leads back from K. M. Johnson Sr. to Joseph Garret Johnson, b. 1873 in Rabun Co., GA. Joe was the son of Madison, b. 1847 in SC, and Serena Ellen Teague, b. 1850 in GA. Known siblings of Madison were Wm. Riley, b. 1872; Isaac S., b. 1878; John M., b. 1879; Nancy Caroline, b. 1880; Frank Asbury, b. 1883; James H., b. 1884; Garfield G., b. 1886. Madison Johnson's parents seem to have been Riley Johnson, b. ca. 1800 in SC, and Nancy ?, b ca. 1823-1828, in SC. Madison is the first known child, and because of his father's age at his birth, I wonder if there was another wife and other children. Madison's known siblings were James, b. ca. 1848; Huldah, b. ca. 1853; Charles, b. ca. 1855; Arah, b. ca. 1859; Emelisa, b. ca. 1862; Nancy A., b. ca. 1864; W. Jasper, b. ca. 1866. These Johnsons lived in Pickens/Oconee Cos., SC, and in Rabun Co., GA, as well as Swain Co., NC. There are some possibilities as to who may have been Riley's father; one early Pickens Co., SC, Rev War veteran mentions in pension records a son (no name) living elsewhere. (I am working from memory a little too early in the a.m., it may even have stated in NC, but I wouldn't swear to it.) Feel free to contact me directly (click on my name to find the email address). I've come to feel as though the Johnsons are my own family and would love to have something new to share with my friends.

Need dates and places to check. I find your mother Glenna, age 7, in the 1930 Swain census in Dillard, age 35 and Ivy, age 34, Hall's household. Dillard, age 24 and Ivy, age 24, are in the 1920 Swain census. Dillard, age 15, is in Mary C. Hall's household in the 1910 Swain Census. Mary is age 32, widow, to young to be Dillard's mother, probably a step mother. In the 1900 Swain Census, the only Hall near the right age is William, age 3, son of Jesse, age 28, and Jane, age 28. In the WWI Draft Registration Cards is a William Dillard Hall, age 22, born 31 Mar 1895 in Swain Co, NC. Any of this sound reasonable? Don
Hi, I am hoping that you might have some Shuler information re: my family. 1) My great grandmother was Ruthie Elvira Shuler married to Rufus Summerrow, and they lived at Bryson City. 2) According to the Mormon site, her father was Thomas Shuler b 14 Dec 1840, d. 9 Dec 1925 and married to Fannie Campbell Sherrill. The children are listed as Mary, Jane, Beth, James, William, Lizzie, Margaret, Ruthie, Nonnie. 3) The same site lists his father as John Shuler married to Sarah ?. Is this line related to your line? Can you direct me to other Shuler genealogy sites? Does anyone have the Swain Co. Genealogy book that they could do a look-up for me? Or any information on the Crow/Crowe family? Specifically I am researching a Henrietta "Etta" J. Crow/Crowe who supposedly was the daughter of a John and Laura Crow/Crowe. Etta was in the Indian School in Swain Co. and I have her listed in the 1900 census. However I am looking for more information on her parents. She moved to PA but her brother Wesley Crow/Crowe remained in NC. Hope to hear from any of you who might have some information. Thanks! Karen, I only have a copy of the picture that was in the Swain Co. genealogical book. I do have a good picture of James Harvey and his wife. He was my great grandfather. There are some errors re: my line in the Swain Co. book. It is a super book, but some of the contributors to the McHan information did not check their sources. I also have additional information from internet sources about the DeHart/McHan connections, but I don't know how accurate they are.
