Death records were not kept in NC until 1913, so consequently there is no master list of deaths for any county prior to 1913. There is a cemetery book for Swain County, which is published by the Swain County Genealogical Society (_www.swaings.com_ (http://www.swaings.com) ), and which lists all cemeteries in Swain County and all the graves in them. You can contact them for purchasing information. There are some Swain cemeteries online at the Swain GenWeb site. Dr. Merrell Jenkins Riddle has spent many hours collecting and compiling the Swain death records 1913-1955 in two volumes which she offers on their website (_www.wncfamilies.com_ (http://www.wncfamilies.com) ). But let me give you what I have on that family. Gilbert Leroy Cabe: b 6/22/1915 d 1/24/1953 Una/Uma Miller b 3/27/1912 d 7/4/1953 Married 6/14/1934 The only child I knew about was Lelia Carolyn Cabe b 6/11/1935. I have her marriages and children too. I have no information on Uma's parents, but I have Gilbert's ancestors for a couple of generations. Your evidence (of Susan Mona being a child of Gilbert and Uma) is clearly compelling but it is interesting to me that my source let me down on this (since she has provided me such cast iron information for other people in this part of the tree). "Sarah Haseltine DeHart, daughter of John and Jane Roberts DeHart, was born Sat., April 14, 1832. At an unguarded moment, she strolled too near the Little Tennessee Creek (river) that flowed near the home and drowned in its angry waters. The tragic death occurred Jan 9, 1834, when she was less than 2 years old. It is unfortunate that a bright promising child should lose her life so young by accident. At first, she was buried in the Ammons graveyard. Later the Nantahala Light and Power Co. moved her bones to the Maple Spring graveyard, where she rests in a lonely grave with none of her close kin near.
