Her Great Great Grandparents were William Ferlinson Davis, born Mar 16, 1788 and Sara Womack, born Sep 6, 1793, married Nov 5, 1812. I cannot find anyone on the Baker roll, but her father was 1/2 Cherokee and she thinks that her grandmother Mary Jane Rose was full Cherokee. If anyone can help me it would make my wife very happy. I tried finding the cemetery recently and although I found the cemetery close to the church, and the Brush Creek slave cemetery (I have GPS coordinates if anyone is interested), I couldn't find the original Brush Creek Church Cemetery using the directions listed in the book. Interestingly, the three stones that is listed as readable at the original cemetery (Sarah S. E. Davis, Birch McMahan and M. J. Morgan), are also at the cemetery next to the church. I'm assuming the graves had been moved next to the church. Does anyone have better directions to the old cemetery? Merrell and Winston Riddle are dear friends of mine whom I have known for several years. I can tell you that their work is impeccable and they are very conscientious researchers. Both willingly share their family research with anyone connected with their families or anyone researching the families which they are working on. They are very highly respected in genealogical circles in western NC. I am always thrilled to hear that they are working on another book, because I know that it is going to put information out that most folks won't have access to otherwise (at least not compiled where it is easily accessed). They referred me to a Dr. Merrill Riddle who had the book (and/or cd of the book) for sale. I ended up buying the Delayed Birth Certificate book, Swain County Death Records (1913-1930 and 1931-1955), and also the Death Index for folks that were born in Swain County, but died in other counties in NC. All have been invaluable with information (the two death indexes also lists the cause of death). If you're interested you may want to go to her website at http://www.wncfamilies.com/index.html I hope I'm not breaking any rules by this; I'm not in any way connected to Dr. Riddle, but I am very satisfied with the books I bought, including the price.
