A major thrust of the campaign is for the village to reconnect with the descendants of families for whom Rockford is an ancestral home. "The campaign offers these descendants a real opportunity to preserve for future generations of their families their heritage and their home," says Ms. Hannah Holyfield, President of the society. "We are going to work with genealogical groups and with ancestry sites on the Internet to reach out to descendants who may have only minimal knowledge about their ancestors' lives here but would like to know more. We plan to contact these descendants and ask them to help us restore the village and then, literally, to come back home." The culmination of the "Remember Rockford" campaign will be a Remember Rockford Families Reunion to be held in 2009. The reunion date will be set in the coming months. Anyone with family ties to Rockford is encouraged to go to rememberrockford.com and register to receive news updates of planned events for the coming months. Receiving a complaint from Mountain Rest of the Indian's misbehavior, the officer went up and arrested him, and upon questioning Talalaha and making further investigation, found that he was a fugitive from North Carolina, in which state he had been under suspended sentence for slashing his brother with a knife while on the Cherokee Indian Reservation in the Great Smokies near Sylva, N.C. He was also wanted in the North Carolina for making and selling liquor, stealing Government property and other law violations. He admitted to officers that he had been in hiding in and around Pine Mountain, Georgia, for about two years. I'll try and pull the Cabe section of the family tree out and attach it as a gedcom file (would the be ok?) There are very few sources referenced, some distant Cabe relative put together a tree which I have co-opted into my own and I am entirely reliant on the accuracy of their "memory". I have extended it backward in time a little and have included references to my own research. Busy today, but I'll try and post it tomorrow. I thought you would have had all that I gave you on Joseph Rose, but just wanted to make sure. It "feels" from what I've seen that Joseph is either son or grandson of Samuel and Mary W. It appeared also from what I've seen that there either isn't much in Samuel's Rev. War pension file to identify all of his family, or there isn't a file available. Wonder if you've tried to look at that. Help may eventually come from via the Rose Family Association. It seemed to me they were very involved and there were a lot of very experienced researchers working on various lines. Sometimes an answer comes not from direct line research, but unexpectedly from some clue in an associated family's data. At the time Joseph and Esther married, where were they living...that is, were they adult children in the households of their parents? And were they living near each other? They may have been related prior to marriage. And about the Wiest (sp?) spouse of Samuel Rose, there may be some information from working that branch, maybe through a will or a tax record or Bible records, for example. There were naming patterns at certain times in certain areas of the country and the world as well. You might want to Google "naming grandchildren" and "historic" or check if there's information readily available at Ancestry.com on the subject. In a portion of my own family originating in VA and KY, for about four generations, the first child was named after the father's father; the second child after the father's mother's side; the third after a father's brother, and fourth after the mother's side of the family, etc. It occurs to me that you might not want to rule out looking for McRose or M'Rose. Do you know if they are Scot/Irish in origin? They could be English or Dutch (Roosa, van Roose, etc.), but if they are Scot/Irish, you might want to check for that version of the name. Even Melrose, or Makrose. I'd be happy to hear if you do make some progress...and I'll let you know if I run across any information to help you as well.
