Hope you are still interested in family history. Rosia Catherine Phillips Johnson is buried with John R at Maple Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Westle S Johnson was the son of Moore Johnson and Martha Parton. Moore and Martha had 3 other children, Nelva, Horace and Paul. Martha died in 1928, possible when Paul was born. In the 1930 census Nelva, Horace and Westle lived with their Johnson grandparents. Paul lived with his Parton grandparents, Manuel and Sara. ----- Original Message ----- From: "jeffery beard" <jefib@msn.com> To: <ncswain@rootsweb.com> Cc: <ncswain-l@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, March 25, 2007 6:03 PM Subject: Re: [NCSWAIN] Westle S. NC, par. b. NC), living with his grandparents Thomas and Elizabeth Jenkins in Swain Co., NC. Also in the household is dau "Betsey Jenkins" age 19, single, and son Thomas, age 9, along with other minors listed as servants. Also in 1880, in Haywood Co., NC, is an adult, Joseph S. Birchfield, age 32 (b. TN), listed as married but with no spouse in the household (nor could I find a spouse living in Haywood Co.), living with his parents, Samuel (b.TN, par. b. NC) and Rosanah Birchfield (b. NC, par. b. NC). His place of birth, of course, doesn't match the stated places of birth of James Jenkins' parents, so that still leaves you hanging, I suppose. Whether or not this is "the" Joe Burchfield, I wonder if Patty Jenkins (and/or the father of James Jenkins) was dead at the time, or if the mother is actually "Betsey". The record that lists Patty Jenkins as James' mother...was it clear and easy to read, or could it have read "Betsey"? Patty is sometimes used as a nickname for Mary, as well. They had three children: Laura Frances Jenkins, James Stanley Jenkins, and my grandfather Cecil Vincent Jenkins. For a very long time, I've been at a brick wall. I haven't been able to find any information about him prior to his marriage to Hettie; his date of birth comes from his WWI draft card. The only family I know of is Samuel Jenkins, who signed the marriage certificate (I believe they were brothers, but my copy of the certificate is in storage and I can't recall whether the relationship was listed, or whether I just surmised it.) James Robert's death certificate lists his father as Joe Burchfield and his mother as Patty Jenkins, but that information came from Hettie when she was about 70 years old, and I've never been able to find any other records that make any such connection.
