Greetings I'm a new subscriber, from the Des Moines, Iowa area. I'm researching my CUMMING/CUMMINS ancestors who, I believe, came from Surry County--this would be prior to 1770. My ancestral grandfather, George Cumming was born 1771 and left there abt 1790 to go to Ireland to claim a land inheritance in County Down. I believe he married before leaving there. I don't know his father's name but I believe he married a woman whose surname was either BELL or CHAMBERS; I'd like very much to hear from anyone with ancestors named CUMMING-CUMMINGS-BELL-CHAMBERS. George's wife was born in Ireland. This couple, with their children remained in County Down until 1802, when they removed to NY City. I have information on this line, but need their NC roots.
