Where can you find information on these land grants. Laura >> Hi Laura, TN was NC until 1796 statehood. For some years after that grants issued by NC were honored with land given in TN. I don't know the particulars of the agreement between the states but I believe that honoring these grants was part of the arrangement. There was some confusion in transition and I have read that it was several years before TN took full control of all.. Some ancestors of mine born after 1796 in TN who are found on census as born in NC (no TV/radio was problem on the frontier when I suppose making for slow transfer of information??). I would think it safe to check in both states. There is a recent book set (v1 and v2 according to alpha of surname) TN Land Grants by Sistler. I would also like to know what's available for NC on land grant records. Perhaps they also have a published source. Are you looking for any name in particular? KATS
