Evelyn, I am decended from William THORNTON and Sarah ARVIN of Surry Co., NC. They lived in Surry Co., NC from 1700's (middle) to 1820 's. They had 10 children. I have lost contact with them after the Father and Mother died. William died in 1820 and Sarah sometime in 1821. Sarah lived in Iredell Co., NC with her daughter who married a SHELLY. Please write and let me know what dates you are researching for your family of THORNTON. I notice you are spelling the last name different. Is it THORNTON you are researching? Also, have seen an article in the Yadkin Co., NC Heritage Book that my THORNTON line family surname was originally spelled FARRINGTON and only on legal documents it was spelled THORNTON. I cannot prove this is true as I have not been able to find any living relatives from this family to confirm. I have been searching this familiy for over 20 years. The surnames that are included in my THORNTON lines from this William and Sarah are: ARVIN,ATHAN,COLVARD,SHELLY/SHELLEY,MORELAND,SLATER,SEAT/FULCHER(2wives), CHILDRESS. I would really like to share what I have.
