To the list: Season's Greeting to all of you. I appeal to anyone who has the time to do a lookup for me. I am interested in the bastard records of Surry Co and Rowan Co for the period around 1879-1880. I have a Robert Hudson b Sept 1879 in Rockford, Surry Co. NC. He is believed to be the 3 mo old Samuel Hudson listed on the 1880 Rockford, Surry Co census in the household of Dicey Hudson, widow of Young Hudson along with Lucy Hudson (Coe), widow of Dudley Coe, and her daughter, Dicey. This 1880 census listed the entire family as Hutson's. Robert's death certificate listed his parents as Samuel Hudson and Lucy Hudson of Surry Co VIRGINIA. I have been unsuccessful in locating any Samuel Hudson in Surry Co VA and believe it should be NC. I have found a Samuel Harrison Hudson, born 1834 in Rowan Co NC. I have no information on him except his parents were William Hudson and Susannah Bilbo Morgan. It has been suggested that my Robert was a bastard child of Samuel Hudson and Lucy Hudson Coe. I have been unsuccessful in locating a marriage record between Samuel Hudson and Lucy Hudson or Lucy Coe in either Surry Co VA, Surry Co NC, or Rowan Co NC. Hence, the suggestion of a bastard child. In addition, when Robert was 9 years old, he entered Oxford Orphanage and left in 1891 with H. L. Carr of Greenville, Pitt Co. NC. There are a number of Bilbro's in Pitt Co. As you can see there are a number of coincidences with these families. The oral history of our family fits closely with these coincidences.
