I am having lots of trouble finding info on my GG grandfather who I think may have been McKINNEY "Kinney" JOHNSON b. 1798 Surry Co., NC m. Sarah ??????? He owned land on Beaver Dam Creek in 1835 tax tithes. May have been brother to CALVIN, KIMBRO, CHARLES and DRURY as they owned land bordering his on the tax table. I recently purchased a marriage record for Surry Co. 1783-1868 and could not find the name in it. It is possible that he could have been married in either STOKES, WILKES, or YADKIN Co. I would appreciate it if anyone that has a marriage book for these three counties to look for the above names for me. I suspect they were married about 1829-31 as their first child was born in 1832. They had a son named HARDY, the fact my GG grandfather was named McKinney leads me to believe these two other families fit into the picture somewhere His name is listed two ways in the census for Surry Co. one as McKinney and another as Kinney. The name WILLIAM has been very prevelent throughout the descendant branches also. I thank you in advance for your help. jcjohnson of alexandria,va
