Hi, This is particularly for John Ottinger who wrote this message dated 11/19/98 3:21:30 AM: <<An ancestor was mentioned on this list who fought at the battle of King's Mountain. Does anyone know of a list of people who were there and where they came from? I'm familiar with Moss's list, but it is just names, not where the combatants lived. It's been my understanding that most came from the Holston and Watauga settlements in what is now east Tennessee, but I know some were from North Carolina counties, like John BARTON of Wilkes County. I'm particularly looking for information on other BARTONS in the area from around that time. Thanks, John in WI>> John, you might try the following sources: White, Katherine Keogh, The King's Mountain Men: the Story of the Battle, with sketches of the American Soldiers Who Took Part, Baltimore, Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., 1985.
