this is lengthy...but it all connects...feel free to forward to anyone you want. I will post some other abstracts (index card handwritten notes I inherited-source of documentation unknown) about the Forehands later with other some of the witness names listed below that connect to this group. remember ...I am posting spelling as was already printed. This pension document about The Holland is very similar to mine about my grandpa David Forehand born 1754 Edgecombe Co., N.C. died 1838 Nash Co., N.C. My grandpa David Forehand Enlisted in Edgecombe Co. November 1779. He was drafted twice but only served one of the times - once "I entered as a substitute for my brother Solemon Forehand and once as a substitute for one William Gadd."... ... ... ....goes on in detail for 3 pages. Re-enlisted Aug. 1780 as a substitute for brother Solemon Forehand. Solomon Forehand will mentions Shadrich Scarborough...I have spelled everything as I have copied it...There are variations of spellings of names if you notice. Abstracts of the wills of Edgecombe Co. David married to a Litha Holland. I saw Marriage bonds of Edgecombe Co., N.C. in the Library in Rocky Mount, N.C. her name was spelled Talitha "Litha" Holland. 12/4/1830 Moore (G.) Carter. David Forehand was 84 when he died. Looks like he was 76 when he got married!!! Go Grandpa! Do we have a southern Holland connection? He never had any children by her to my knowledge. I know nothing else of this southern Holland line. I do have Hollands on another branch of my family tree...they are from PA. I do have some names & dates & pictures of them. They were married to Hulshizer/Hulsizer & Eveland surnames. David Forehand had a daughter Elizabeth "Betsey" Forehand who is said to have been illegitimate and David raised her. Her mother worked on the Forehand Farm. That is from oral family history which no one would make up. I don't know who the Biological mother of Betsey is. Any clues?....read on.... Does anyone know who Betsey Forehands mother is? The Wills of Nash Co., N.C. VOL I 1777-1848 abstracted by Dr. Stephen E. Bradley, Jr. Will of David Forehand David (X) Forehand 30 March 1838 August Ct. 1838 "Weake in Body" Money from sale of land to go to the heirs of Betsey Ruffin: Polley, David, Martha An, Samuel Henry, Elisabeth, Frances, John Ruffin. Money from sale of rest of estate to go to Betsey Ruffin, John Maths, Lucy Taylor, Morning Moris, Lettie Forehand. Ex. Barney Pearson Wit. Dempsey Harrison, Teacle Ricks Does anyone recognize a surname in the heirs, executors, or witnesses. What relation is John Maths, Lucy Taylor, Morning Moris. I have a feeling that Betsey's husband Samuel was deceased ( I need a will on him) Now, I am guessing that Lettie Forehand is (Litha) Talitha Holland Forehand. Betsey Ruffin is David's daughter Elizabeth (Betsey) Forehand Ruffin & she was married to a Samuel Ruffin ...they had 7 children listed above in the will. Martha An is actually Martha Ann Susan Ruffin--one of my grandmas Samuel Henry is also one of my grandpas. Their offspring were 1st cousins & married. --------------------
