Hi, all, Trying to sort out several JENNINGS men in the NWNC and SWVA areas who seem very likely to all be related. --- Hoping someone can help identify the approximate area of Capt. JUDD's District on the 1787 Wilkes Tax List (some areas of Surry Co., such as the Mitchell River Community, were recorded in Wilkes Co. at times, for some unknown reason...Since I don't know where JUDD's District was, it is possible that the persons listed in it actually resided in Surry.) John "JENINS" owned and lived on 159+ acres in JUDD's 1787 District, and also recorded there was John's apparent son?, Luke JENINS, with no land, but 1 white poll that year. John JENNINGS [apparently the same man] also owned 300 acres in the Mitchell River Community of Surry in 1790, recorded on the Wilkes Tax List as Capt. HARDIN's District. John and Luke JENINGS were recorded in the Fourth Company of Wilkes Co. in 1790; John's household consisted of 3 white males over 16 yrs., and 2 white females; Luke's household consisted of 1 white male over 16 yrs., 3 white males under 16 yrs., and 1 white female. These JENNINGS men had neighbors: William SMITH, John SMITH, John ROBINS [ROBBINS[, James SERTAIN [SERTIN], David OWIN (OWEN, OWENS], John FORESTER, Mike MCDOWELL, Robert HALL, Andrew VANNOY, Henry PUMPHY [HUMPHREY?], William VEARS [MEARS?], Silas ATKINS, John HALL, Jesse HALL, Dicey RAY and Sarah RHODES. Does anyone have any deeds or other documents for these two JENNINGS? Anyone have any deeds for their neighbors that show where any of these people lived? --- And, of course, there was James JENNINGS of 1790 Surry, who m.Martha "Patsy" MCBRIDE, dau. of William MCBRIDE [d. 1818, Surry Co.]; at least some of their children reportedly moved to Georgia. I know that this James was roughly contemporary with Luke. Does anyone know if he was John's son or brother, or who this James' father was? --- Elijah JINNINS was recorded in Ashe Co. in 1800, with a household of 1 males 26-45 yrs., 2 males 0-9 yrs., 2 males 10-16 yrs., 3 females 0-9 yrs., and 1 female 26-45 yrs. [This list was alphabetized, so is not useful in placing Elijah with neighbors.] --- In 1810, E. GINNING had a household in J. BOND's Division of Ashe Co. that consisted of 1 male over 45 yrs., 1 male 26-45 yrs., 2 males 10-16 yrs., 1 male 0-9 yrs., 1 female 26-45 yrs., 1 female 16-26 yrs., and 4 females 0-9. His neighbors were: C. MILLER, P. [Peter] GRAYBILL [GRAYBEAL], W. COFFEE [COFFEY], J. MILLER, J. BLACK, A. BOWER, J. GRIMES [GRYMES], C. WALTER [WALTERS], C. CRIDER [CRYDER], J. FOUTS, H. GRAYBILL, and G. [George] KOONS [KOONTZ, KOONTS, COONS, etc.] --- In 1820, Elijah "JENNOUS" had a household in Ashe of 1 male over 45 yrs., 1 male 18-26 yrs., 1 male 16-18 yrs., 1 male 10-16 yrs., 2 males 0-9, 1 female over 45 yrs., 1 female 16-26 yrs., 1 female 10-16 yrs., and 1 female 0-9 yrs. [This list was alphabetized.] --- Does anyone have ready access to the 1830, 1840 & 1850 censuses for Ashe that would be willing to do a lookup on the JENNINGS families there? Does anyone know where Elijah JENNINGS died, and whether he had a son named William or a son named Solomon? --- In 1840, Abram or Abraham JENNINGS and Sarah [UNK] JENNINGS were divorced in Wilkes. Does anyone have further information on this divorce? --- There were no GINNINS, GINNINGS, JENNINS or JENNINGS in Surry Co. in 1850, nor were there any in 1880. --- In 1856, William JENNINGS d. in Ashe Co.; his sons, Thornton, William, Martin, and John; dau. m. John CARSON. Thornton JENNINGS m. Charity FENDER [b. 1813], dau. of John FENDER [d. 1857, Ashe Co.; she was a widow in Grayson Co., VA in 1870. Which JENNINGS man was the husband of Charity's sister, Sarah FENDER? Meanwhile, William, Martin, and John JENNINGS, sons of Will d. 1856, all were in Alleghany in 1860; by 1870, Martin was still there, and a widow, Cynthia was living next door to him. [Was she the widow of his older brother, William?] Any help on any of these JENNINGS and allied families will be most appreciated. Please respond directly to my E-Mail below. THANKS!
