The following was posted by Judie Schatz on Sun, 05 Mar 2000 on the Surry County GenConnect Query Forum: - -------------------------------------------------------------------- Surname: FANNING Looking for descendents of THOMAS FANNING and wife SARAH. They appear in the 1790 Surry Co. Census with a total of 5 in household. Believe this to be the same THOMAS FANNING that was listed as a taxpayer in Montgomery Co., VA, in the 1780s up to 1787. August 1788 Isaac Copeland ordered overseer of newly marked road from Fishers River to Bull Run. August 1789 ordered hands of John and William Howard, John Paget, THOMAS FANNON, John Smallwood and James Takewell to work under Isaac Copeland, road overseer. Can someone tell me exactly where this road was located? In the 1805 will of Mrs. Jane __ Howard Allen, she lists all of her Howard children including ANN HOWARD FANNING. Who was Ann's husband? Have never been able to find THOMAS FANNING in another census anywhere though have been told that 3 of his younger children married in late 1810's in Knox Co., TN, 3 Swadley siblings. Any help most appreciated. - -------------------------------------------------------------------- Any replies should be sent to the Surry County GenConnect Query Forum [<http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/Surry>] . --
