    1. [NCSURRY] Joseph Wiliams of Early Surry Co., NC
    2. I located this on Political Graveyard website: Williams, Joseph, of Shallow Ford (1748-1827) — also known as "Duke of Surry" — of Surry County, N.C. Born in Hanover County, Va., March 27, 1748. First cousin of John Williams of Montpelier, Richard Henderson and Thomas Henderson; brother of John Williams, Nathaniel Williams, Jr. and Robert Williams. Delegate to North Carolina provincial congress, 1775; served in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. Died in Surry County, N.C., August 11, 1827. Interment at a private or family graveyard, Forsyth County, N.C. Comment: I am a descendant of another first cousin of Joseph Williams - one William Williams who died testate at Boonesborough, now Kentucky, Dec 1775. He was a brother of the John Williams *of Montpelier* mentioned in the second line above. This family is rife with these given names: John, Joseph, Nathaniel, so it is easy to get confused. I would like to know more about 1) the parental family of Joseph Williams and 2) some of his descendants. E.W.Wallace **************Start the year off right.
