I am searching for my great grandparents who left Surry Co, NC around 1900 and moved to Virginia (around Wise County and Scott County): My great grandfather was Thomas Hyatt (spelling may have been changed) born in Surry County, NC (sorry no dates). My great grandmother was Lillie/Lydia Draughn (sorry no dates). They had the following Children: Mary Hyatt married Barney Sword 7/07/1917 in Wise County, Virginia. Note on the marriage record at the Wise County Courthouse the mother is listed as Lillie Hyatt. Sarah Hyatt Bill Hyatt George Wilson Hyatt married Emma Victoria Culbertson George was born Feb. 28, 1889 died Feb. 02, 1965. George is my grandfather and he remembered moving from N.C. to the mountains of Virginia in a covered wagon. He said he was a young boy, but he was old enough to remember the move. This is why I believe they moved somewhere between 1895 and 1900. I am looking for any information I can find on my great grandparents. It has been said that Thomas Hyatt's father or grandfather came over from Germany on a fishing vessel. It seems that he was a fisherman by trade and loaded his family up on the boat the night before. The next morning he left (as going to work) and never returned to Germany. If this is the case then I don't know that there would be a record of his arrival in America.
