Barbara's second message referred to Surry County near the Rowan County Line. This would describe the current border between Davie County (formed from Rowan in 1836) and Yadkin County (formed from Surry in 1850). The Lagle map of Davie Co. land grants shows two creeks originating near the Yadkin/Davie line that flow southeast to become part of Dutchman's Creek. I'm inclined to favor one of these creeks for Barbara's location rather than the one in Elkin, based on her mention of the Rowan County line. Elkin is in present-day Surry County, so it's some miles north of where Surry joined Rowan in the 1778-1791 period. -- Elizabeth Harris ncgen@mindspring.com Personal genealogy webpage: http://www.duke.edu/web/chlamy Winston-Salem NC area genealogy: http://www.fmoran.com/ HOLDER DNA project: http://www.mindspring.com/~holderdna/
