    1. Re: [NCSURRY] [HARRIS-HUNTERS] Robert Harris & Lucretia Brown - Probably previously of Louisa Co., VA
    2. Pam Stone
    3. Hi, everyone, I apparently didn't get the original posting that prompted this response. Capt. Robert Harris (the son of Robert Harris and Mourning Glenn of Louisa & Albemarle Cos., VA), and the husband of Lucretia Brown Harris, did NOT die in 1796! [Where do people keep getting that year of death for Robert Harris who died in Surry Co., NC? It is not correct, and people should please stop posting it as though it is proven. The actual documents show that this information is not correct at all---this particular Robert Harris did not die until 1809 in Surry Co., NC. Please, everyone who has notations on this man, correct your notes for him.] This Robert Harris and his family had moved, along with his parents, from Louisa Co. to Albemarle Co., VA, near the end of his parents' lives. Robert Harris Sr., and his wife, Mourning Glenn, died there, and their wills are recorded there. I do have documentation for this family in Louisa Co., and other earlier families, but I only will post a couple of vital ones in Albemarle, and a portion of what is relevant in North Carolina. And, by the way, Benjamin Brown Sr. had a large number of children before he started "going for the B's"; only his younger children's names all started with the letter "B". Lucy Brown Harris died sometime before1806, and Robert died there in 1809. An additional document that I am including here is the will of Cornelius Dabney [second father-in-law of this Robert Harris' brother, Christopher Harris, whose second wife was apparently Cornelius' daughter. {Cornelius Dabney's daughter, the second wife of Christopher Harris, was the mother of a number of his children that are named in his 1794 Madison Co., KY will...}] Robert Harris [Sr.] of Surry Co., NC, wrote his will in 1806 and died in 1809 in Surry Co., NC. His land was on the Ararat River in Surry Co. [DNA proves that this Harris line matches to the family of my own William Harris, who died in 1848 in Wilkes Co., NC at the age of 96 {having removed from Culpeper, VA, to Surry, NC, then Wilkes, NC.} How they possibly are related is, as yet, undiscovered. My William Harris was illiterate, and this Robert Harris was quite wealthy, and his family had always been literate, as far as I can tell. It is a mystery.] Here is the brief but clear documentation for the lines of the couple of Robert Harrises of this line as I have found it. As E. W. states, if you use any of this information, please cite the sources in the correct way (the researchers spent many hours in their work, and they deserve the tribute to them, and acknowledgement of the copyrights thereof. We would certainly all be lost without their work, so please be respectful in this regard, and always post all sources.)
