    3. Greetings, Surry Clan I will do look ups covers various counties of today, that was in Rowan County. Surry County what was called "Hallows" and Salisbury. Areas surrounding, and in Surry County Town Fork, Dan River and upper Dan River.(Guilford,Rockingham Stokes, & Surry) Yadkin and Muddy Creek Settlement(with Forsyth and Davidson Counties).. Bellows Creek (present Rockingham, Stokes and Forsyth Counties) William D. Kizzah, late Register of Deeds Rowan County, who allegedly had found the original list in the Wall of the old courthouse WHAT'S INTERESTING ABOUT THIS INFORMATION (1768 taxables Rowan County) UNDER SEVERAL NAMES THEY LIST 1782 TAXABLES RELOCATING TO SURRY COUNTY. Some information states below the name that it is torn, sons are mentioned under their father's names and slaves are mentioned under some of the names. Not all names are listed This information was printed in "The North Carolina Genealogical Society Journal" ( Nov. 1983) Some information was taken form "Abstract of the Minutes of the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions -Rowan County, North Carolina 1763-1774, Vol. II, by Jo White Linn, 1979 In 1971, William Perry Johnson published partial elements of Rowan County tax list of 1768 from abstracts drawn up William D. Kizzah, late register of deeds. Just give me a last name a first if you would like. I'll search and send. Gwenn

    2. Gween, I am looking for Cooks. Robert and son Thomas had land grants in 1784 in the Townfork Settlement. I think James Cook lived on what is now the Surry Sotkes border near Westfield. I think they came from Caroline Co, Va. I have never heard of the Hallows before, very interesting. I was b in Chestnut Ridge approx center of Mt. Airy, Westfield and Pilot Mountain.
