Bob and Joanne: Thank you for a jolly good laugh on a very hot day. Have posted another cemetery in Surry County. This one is New Venture Baptist Church which is east of Mt. Airy. Believe the site was the former church location for Pleasant View Baptist Church which has since relocated. See the file at the location below. Just scroll down till you see New Venture Baptist Church. http://www.genealogy.mountainscape.com/surrycousins/Churches.htm If you see any errors in the listing, or can add information such as a last name of a spouse, etc, send me a note and I'll update it. Have posted a new cemetery survey for Old Pine Hill Community Church, aka Pine Hill Methodist Church. Just lick on the link below and scroll down till you see the listing. http://www.genealogy.mountainscape.com/surrycousins/Churches.htm Bob Carter Greensboro, NC
FYI from another list I'm on. I've also used this site to verify the DOB/DOD and burial location of many of the STONE descendants of Calvin Gordon STONE that moved from Surry County to UT in the late 1800s. I have checked our library and it does not have Mr.Johnson's book on Surry County taxables. I am hoping someone on the list has a copy of the book and will do a look-up for me. I am researching Collins Hampton and would very much appreciate a check of the book. If he is included, I will try to find a copy to purchase. Thanks you all for your interesting posts. Looking for anything on Daniel and Jane Frances Mason Fhives. Jane Frances Mason supposedly was the daughter of a Polly Krillington. Daniel and Jane Frances Fhives had a daughter Sarah Elizabeth b. 1841married Wm. Clark Jordan b. 1827. The Jordans were in the 1880 Surry Co NC census with 7 siblings. Sarah E. Fhives Jordan d. abt. 1940 in Forsyth Co NC. Will appreciate any help on Fhive, Mason, and Krillington. Perry W. Creed
Hi, everyone, Just thought I would let everyone know that for about the last two weeks, my E-mail on my home computer has not been functioning correctly---I can receive mail just fine, but can't seem to send anything using Outlook on my home computer. (I am sending this mail through the Webmail at Earthlink, which owns my server, digital.net [Florida Online].) (Not real clear on what is going on, though I switched to DSL [awesomely fast Internet access!] But can't figure out why my mail won't let me send, as the settings all seem right...) Eventually I think I will figure out how to make all of this work together, but wanted everyone to know that I have not intentionally ignored anyone. I will get back to regular communication as soon as I can figure out what's wrong. Thanks! Pam pamstone@digital.net
William Clark Jordan b. 1827 Married Sarah Elizabeth Fhives b abt. 1841. Sarah was the daughter of Daniel and Jane Frances Mason Fhives. Jane was the daughter of Polly Krillington. Questions? Was Polly Krillington married to a Mason? Who is Polly Krillington, her husband, her parents? Just one of many mysteries. Also looking backwards from Daniel and Jane France Mason Fhives. Perry W. Creed
Just a note to everyone on the political front, but Carolyn K. Justice, carolynj@ncleg.net, is part of NC House panel studying possible changes in NC cemetery laws. I didn't see a specific web site for her, but got this from wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carolyn_K._Justus Please take time to send her an Email outlining your support of legislation that protects private family cemeteries, and all cemeteries in general, from urban encrachment and development and also that leads to their preservation. All too often, we hear of a cemetery being overrun by development and the graves of those who were buried there are gone forever. Unlike highway development, some local private developers don't even bother to notify local government officials of graves since it would cost them time and money to remove. The President of the Surry County Genealogical Association, Andy Hennis, has already sent her a letter asking for her support in protective legislation. Bob Carter Greensboro, NC
Hope everyone will have a chance to look at this article in the Mt. Airy News and give Andy a call or send me a message. We're looking for information and I'm keeping the data collected. We have the large cemeteries, and those affiliated with churches, but are looking for those family cemeteries that seem to be swallowed up by urban growth and the forests. http://epaper.mtairynews.com/Repository/ml.asp?Ref=TVRBLzIwMDYvMDUvMTgjQXIwMDEwMQ==&Mode=HTML&Locale=english-skin-custom Bob Carter Greensboro, NC

Hi Teresa and All: I have Stewart/Stuart ancestors who were in Augusta Co VA around the 1750's. My line eventually settled in Raleigh Co WV. If there's any connection to your Stewarts, I'll try to help you. Is anyone researching the CREED family? I descend through Matthew Creed, Sr., his son Matthew Creed, Jr., and then Bennett Creed. Matthew Jr settled in Wilkes Co NC, where Bennett Creed was born. Bennett left NC and settled in Tazewell Co VA, then went to Russell Co VA, where he died. Bennett's only son, Shadrack "Shade" Creed, was my great-grandfather. I would love to hear from anyone interested in the CREED family. Any information you can share is greatly appreciated. I am also interested in finding any Jackson's or Childers/Childress who are related to the CREED family. It is possible that the Childers/Childress and Jackson relationship occurred prior to the CREED family moving to Surry Co NC. The CREED (often incorrectly transcribed as Crud) family are listed in the 1790 census of Surry Co NC. Looking forward to hearing from my CREED "cousins" in Surry County.
