I am researching the name of Hickman from Surry Co. The family that I am researching lived in the White Plains area. There was a John and William Hickman that showed up in Surry Co. around 1790 to 1800. William Hickman, Sr. and his brother John, owned land in Grayson County, Virginia before moving to Surry County, North Carolina. The first they obtained was in 1814 and appeared on the tax list in 1815. William married Anna Hutchins - born VA - died around 1840 Surry Co. - William was born unknown in Maryland - died around 1817 at Cadles Creek, Surry Co. William had a son named Thomas Jefferson - born 1810 Surry Co. - died 12 April 1894 McCreary Co., KY - he married (18 December 1855 in Surry Co.) Mahala Taylor - born 13 July 1831 in VA - died 22 December 1905 McCreary Co., KY. Mahala was Thomas Jefferson's second wife. His first wife was a Mary Needham - born unknown - died around 1860 Surry Co. Thomas and Mary were married on 23 December 1845 in Surry Co. It is said that Mahala's family was possibly neighbors to the Hickman's. Would like to find anyone that would have any info on the Taylor or Hickman families in that area. Thanks in advance Gary L. Dankworth, Sr. [email protected]

I have an old family group record that I found at the Ashe County Public Library, which lists: Humphrey Durham died Surry County married Usella (Ursulla) d. 1809 Children: Margaret James George, b. Aug 1783, bound Geo D. Holcomb Thomas b. March 1780 bound to Dan'l Liverson Humphrey Jr., b. 22 Aug 1788, bound to Thomas Horn. Does anyone else have any information on this family? Greetings all, After many hours of work (or is it pleasure) I have created my own genealogy home page. I was never really happy with the facilities that Family Tree Maker gave me and thus struck out on my own. It is split up into different surnames. The surnames of interest to this area include: CALLOWAY, KILBY, ROTEN, HOLBROOK, and all the associated surnames that married into these families. Please check it out and let me know your thoughts. I am also looking for any other photos or documents that you might have out there that I can add. The address is: "http://www.zianet.com/schulthe/home.htm" As always, let me know any corrections, additions, deletions, or any other comments you may have. Thanks, Chris..... Hello, Is any one here working on the Joyce/Joice family lines that migrated to Middle Tennessee? Sharon Smith [email protected]
I am seeking information on James MORTON, sonof Samuel MORTON and An HOLTON MORTON. I have read where James had some property in GA and might have alienated himself from his father. In 1790, there was one white mail named JAMES MORTON over the age of 16). In particular, I need to know who James married and the names of his children. Looking for something that includes the following children: David MORTON (born circa 1800 Buncombe County, NC), George MORTON, Thomas MORTON, one unnamed MORTON son, and sister, Mary Ann MORTON. All were born in Buncombe County between 1798 & 1806. James's brothers, Samuel and William, I believe, migrated to Blount County, TN, while David and siblings migrated to Anderson/Union County, TN. Thank you so much for any help you might be able to give. Nina
