I'd like to correspond with anyone that descends from Rufus Harmon Redman (1839 Stokes Co. - 1919 Surry Co) and Lucy Anne Haymore (1845 Surry Co - 1917 Surry Co.). Both are buried at Pilot Mt. Cemetery. The children I have are: Rufus Wilkerson (married Mary Ann McGee), Jettie Aulener, Granville Gideon, Haida Emerzet, John William, Martha Juanetta (married Jesse Robert Forkner?), Roxanna (married Wm. Henry Stephens) (my line), Charles Edward (married Unk Aug 11, 1926), Elmira, Ruth Etta Frances (married Walter Raleigh Mitchell). Thanks. John Speight
An ancestor was mentioned on this list who fought at the battle of King's Mountain. Does anyone know of a list of people who were there and where they came from? I'm familiar with Moss's list, but it is just names, not where the combatants lived. It's been my understanding that most came from the Holston and Watauga settlements in what is now east Tennessee, but I know some were from North Carolina counties, like John BARTON of Wilkes County. I'm particularly looking for information on other BARTONS in the area from around that time. Thanks, John in WI

Hello, I apologize for a second message inadvertantly sent before I finished. I will try once again, and if it's incomplete, will any interested parties contact me and I'll try to communicate better?! Marr. Edwin Hickman, a surveyor, was killed by Indians in 1791, in what is now known as Hickman County Tennessee. The inventory of his estate was returned by Thomas Hickman, 12 July 1791. He was born October 1760 in Albemarle or Culpepper County Virginia, and married 23 September 1781 in Henry county, Virginia to Elizabeth Jane Pryor. He was a son of William Hickman, Sr., he lived for awhile in Stokes County, North Carolina before moving to Cumberland. As a resident of Surry county, North Carolina, he was a captain in the Revolution, serving under Colonels John Armstrong, Robert Armstrong, and Robert Lanier. He was at the battles of Alamance, Whitsell's Mill and Guilford Courthouse. After coming to Davidson county, TN , he practiced the art of land surveying and apparently kept a stable for horses. The children of Edwin and Elizabeth Hickman were: 1) Edwin, born in 1788 in Nashville, Tennessee, died 19 January 1871; 2) Susannah, born about 1789 in Nashville, married 8 May 1807 to William Dixon; 3) Elizabeth, born about 1790 in Nashville, married Joel Rice; 3) John P., born in 1791 in Nashville, married 19 December to Narcissa Weakly. As a resident of Surry (now Stokes) County, North Carolina, he volunteered, in 1780, as ensign in Captain William Merdith's Company, regiment of Colonel Robert Lanier. At the close of 1780, he served two months as an ensign under his brother, Captain Edwin Hickman, in Colonel John Armstrong's regiment, General Picken's brigade. He was in the battles of Alamance County, Whitsell's Mill, Guilford Courthouse, and the Battle of Eutaw Springs. (Thomas Hickman's Revolutionary war pension applicatiion, File no. S-4371.) I am not sure if this is the Hickman family you are seeking, but thought I would send this in case it might be helpful to you. Hello; A new subscriber researching my ROBERTS/DAVIS marriage in Surry Co about 1791-3, I would like to connect with a researcher that shares this large family. My direct ancestors were: WILLIAM (BILLY) ROBERTS b) Feb 1770; married MARY ELIZABETH DAVIS B)? (Father; John Davis, Sr.) William was one of the middle children of the 14 born to parents John and Elizabeth Roberts, married in Surry Co in 1755. John Roberts died in Surry County, 23 May 1808; his Will and Deeds and other of the family transactions are avail in the courthouse records. Two of my William's bro's also married Davis girls; Hugh Roberts to Sarah Davis, and Jonathan Roberts to Lucy Davis about 1808; reference to Leonard Davis, a marriage bondsman was noted. I'm certain that the senior John Roberts lived all their lives in Surry County; not so sure about the DAVIS family, but records seem to indicate it. Does anyone in Surry County today, have a Web Page on either of these these families? I have nothing at all on Mary Davis, my gr-gr-grmothr excepting her children's names; John, Justianna, Sarah, William, Eliz, amd James, born between 1793 and 1805. Mary Davis died young, and William re-marrried to Lydia Lewis and moved into Grayson Co VA: they had another large family and their son Jonathan founded Roberts Cove. My ancestor, Mary Elizabeth Davis Roberts, has left behind no birth, marriage, or death records that I can find. Anyone with a DAVIS clan able to share information? I have much documentation on several generations of her descendants. Mary Davis-John W Roberts-Micajah Roberts-Conally Roberts-Reta Roberts- and me.....Shirley in Alaska
Looking for descendants of Cornelius Taylor (dates?) and Jane Haymore (dates?). I can see a lot of Taylors in the 1850 census for the Hollow /Holly Springs area of Surry Co.- many in their 40s. So far I've connected (1) Edmond Taylor (b. 1793) married Tempy Haymore (b. 1799); and (2) Mary "Polly" White Taylor (b. 1800) married Brittain Haymore (1799-1883). Both Tempy and Brittain were children of Daniel Haymore, Sr. and Polly Shockley. If you connect with these Taylors and/or Haymores, pls contact me. Thanks. John Speight, Lilburn GA
