I am hunting for any information on my great(5)grandfather, Benjamin Wigfield. He moved with his family from Bedford County, PA to the southwest corner of Surry County (now Yadkin Co) sometime between 1784 (when he last appears in Bedford Co tax list and 1787 when he enters a warrant for 100 acres on the north fork of Hunting Creek on the border of James Harvel, Henry Speer and John Wright. He appears in several subsequent land entries, reference made to neighbor Edward Riley. He lived here until ca 1799-1800 when he moved up to Scott County (then-Russell Co), VA. He appeared in the 1790 Surry County census with 5 females in the household. I am not familiar with Surry Co tax records for this time period but if any exist, I'd appreciate any reference to Benjamin. Thank you, Jack Templeton

I am desperate for information on the William Elliott family of Surry Co., NC. William and his wife Eleanor were in Surry as early as 1771 when he appeared on a tax list. He died there in 1802 (date of probate). He named in his will, sons, Nimrod, William, Jr., and Washington (a minor), and daughter Eleanor, (a minor). I believe he also had daughters named Chloe who married Raleigh Leroy Holcomb and Theodocia who married Thomas Holcomb. Would love to correspond with anyone who is familiar with this family. Nancy Hays was also from Surry Co. He had a wife before that, Nancy MATHIS, and I think one preceded her too. He had 23 children in all, 108 grandchildren. He died 25 May 1875 in Lawrence Co., IN. He left a considerable estate, and his family fought over it through years of litigation. To the list: Season's Greeting to all of you. I appeal to anyone who has the time to do a lookup for me. I am interested in the bastard records of Surry Co and Rowan Co for the period around 1879-1880. I have a Robert Hudson b Sept 1879 in Rockford, Surry Co. NC. He is believed to be the 3 mo old Samuel Hudson listed on the 1880 Rockford, Surry Co census in the household of Dicey Hudson, widow of Young Hudson along with Lucy Hudson (Coe), widow of Dudley Coe, and her daughter, Dicey. This 1880 census listed the entire family as Hutson's. Robert's death certificate listed his parents as Samuel Hudson and Lucy Hudson of Surry Co VIRGINIA. I have been unsuccessful in locating any Samuel Hudson in Surry Co VA and believe it should be NC. I have found a Samuel Harrison Hudson, born 1834 in Rowan Co NC. I have no information on him except his parents were William Hudson and Susannah Bilbo Morgan. It has been suggested that my Robert was a bastard child of Samuel Hudson and Lucy Hudson Coe. I have been unsuccessful in locating a marriage record between Samuel Hudson and Lucy Hudson or Lucy Coe in either Surry Co VA, Surry Co NC, or Rowan Co NC. Hence, the suggestion of a bastard child. In addition, when Robert was 9 years old, he entered Oxford Orphanage and left in 1891 with H. L. Carr of Greenville, Pitt Co. NC. There are a number of Bilbro's in Pitt Co. As you can see there are a number of coincidences with these families. The oral history of our family fits closely with these coincidences. FAGAN is the father of James JONES Fam 34 and William JONES Fam 98 and probably many of these others. I think James JONES 75 is the grandfather in law of Frances L. JONES Fam 548 and the William JONES fam 98 is the father of the dead husband, James Garland JONES, of Frances L. Stark JONES......James Garland named a son James and James named a son William......in all these families listed James and William appears to be the name of choice! Good evening to All I am looking for any and all help in getting information on a BASS, Edward, Jr., born on Jan. 17, 1798 in Surry County, North Carolina. He died Feb. 03, 1882 in Mineral Ridge, Iowa. He married SAFFLEY, Mary Polly who was born Jul. 20, 1799 and died Jul. 15, 1885. They had a total of 10 children and one being Jesse F. Jesse was born Jul. 22, 1820 also in North Carolina. Anyone that can shed some light on these names or if they look familiar please e-mail me.
