The correct URL for the North Carolina Marriages is http://tn-3.rootsweb.com/~marce/ncarolina/index.html. I apologize for my error. Doris A. Smith [email protected]
Over the next few days I will be posting pages 248, 249, and 250 of the Surry County (North Carolina) Marriage Bonds. The information contains the name of the Groom, name of the Bride, date of bond, and name of the bondsman. This information can be found at http://www.tn-3.rootsweb.com/~marce/ncarolina/index.html. Page down about mid way and click on Search North Carolina Marriage Databases. Doris A. Smith <[email protected]>

Hello all, If someone has the Family Tree Maker CD #255, will you please look up James N. Parham in Land records for AL, AR, FL, LA, MI, MN, OH and WI. I just want to know the time of purchase and the county. I have looked for this man for 20 years and cannot find him any where before 1860. He was born in AL between 1817 & 1826. I know where he was in 1860 and afterward. I will be very grateful. Thanks, Hazel

Hi to all I am looking for any leads on the surname Crutchfield/Scritchfield/Critchfield or any close possibility, I know there was a John, Samuel and Nathaniel in Surry Co., NC 1771/72 from tax lists. I know there was a Samuel Crutchfield involved in a long drawn out lawsuit, but can not find wives, nor determine what children belonged to whom? Any help would be appreciated. Beverly
Doris, Don't fool with Rich Text. It makes it worse. I can follow the columns. I think you have done a good job and thank you for your posting. Although I didn't find anyone of my family in these marriage records, I appreciate your time and effort. Rhio
I'm so sorry - I didn't mean to send the two pages of the marriage bonds, as when I looked at them I could tell that the formatting would make it next to impossible to read. I typed them in offline, using plain text, and my four columns got terribly messed up. When I logged back onto my ISP, the two pages were automatically sent before I could stop the send. If anyone is interested in my checking these three pages for you, let me know off line, as I don't want to waste time typing in the third page and having it appear so messed up. If I could use rich text, I could get the columns right.......... Doris A. Smith [email protected]

Quite a few years ago I requested and was sent photocopies of pages 248, 249, and 250 in the Surry County Marriage Bonds book. This was in the early 1980s, and I no longer have the name of the exact entity that sent the photocopies to me - it was either the county clerk or the county registrar in Dobson, NC. The copies that I was sent are typewritten, so they aren't the originals, but must be a transcription of the orginals. According to _The Handy Book for Genealogists: United States of America - Eighth Edition, published by The Everton Publishers Inc., P.O. Box 368, Logan, Utah 84321 ; copyright 1991, Sixth Printing, 1997; pages 179 and 180, "after 1741, prior to marriage, one had the choice of publishing banns or buying a license which required posting of a bond. Surviving marriage bonds, except for Granville and Davie counties, are in the North Carolina State Archives. They contain the names of the groom, the bride, the other bondsman, and the witness." The information on these pages is arranged in four columns, with the following headings: GROOM, BRIDE, DATE OF BOND, BONDSMAN. I'm assuming in this case that the "other bondsman" and the "witness" were the same. I will send the information in three installments, in the interest of space. Am searhing for parents and ancestors of Mason Standfield who married Elizabeth Kidd on 27 April 1806 in Surry Co. I know he was still there in 1830, but had moved to Gilmer CO, GA by 1850. A James Standfield married Nancy Turner on 20 Feb 1806 in SURRY CO, and I wonder if they might be brothers. Anita Gilreath, GGG Granddaughter of Mason
Does anyone have this book Yadkin County Historical and Genealogical Society Journal subject Gross/Alexander Vestal-Delanha Gross fam., North Carolina vol. 11 issue 1 march 1992 Thanks so much Evelyn
I'm searching for the family of John and Britton Bridges, who bought land in Livingston County, KY in 1804. Before coming to Livingston County, they evidently came through Williamson County, TN, where Britton purchased the land in Livingston from Jacob Scott. Britton married Polly Scott, and she and at least one of their 3 children (Rebecca, Edwin, William) were born in TN. Britton died by 1810. His children inherited from the estate of a John Bridges in 1816, whose estate was administered by a Jesse Williams. One person said that Britton and John may be the children a John Bridges, son of Faith and Edwin Bridgers/Bridges of NC. Does anyone know to whom this family belongs? Or do any of your lines connect to Caldwell/Logan/Christian Counties in KY? These counties neighbor Livingston, and there were lots of Bridges there, too. Thanks. Dawnene Bridges Young
