    2. Dear List Members; Sometime between 1810 and 1824 Elizabeth McDANIEL married a Mr. JOHNSON. They were living in or near Surry County, NC, by 1824. Elizabeth may have used the surname MASTERS (from her first husband, Nicholas MASTERS, who died in 1810). I am searching for any information on her marriage to Mr. JOHNSON and would also like to know whether or not they had offspring. Please contact me at [email protected] Thanks, SAM

    2. I'm searching for information regarding a widow named Elizabeth Tilley, age 70, who lived with her son Joseph and his wife Mary in the 1880 census of Surry Co. Also a James Tilley and wife Leitha. James was age 46 in 1880 and listed as "maimed". I believe he was also a son of Eliz and that they all came from Ashe County, but I'm not positive it's the same family. Is anyone related to these folks? Thanks Karen Worley Wilkesboro, NC

    1. [NCSURRY-L] Farewell for Now
    2. Chris Schultheis
    3. Greetings All, In about 10 days I will be leaving for Saudi Arabia until around Thanksgiving. About 45 days after that I will be retiring from the Air Force after 20 pretty good years. I figure at the age of 38 it is now or never to make the big leap to the civilian life. I am not being forced out but making a conscious choice. I figure that I eventually have to give up all the security of the military life and I don't want to be too old when I make that jump. At least no more moving every 3-4 years (at least I hope not). We will be settling in the North Georgia area to start with. My mom lives there in a nice big house that we will temporarily move into. I will then commence the job search. So, if you know of any good job opportunities, please send them my way. I have a degree in Business Administration and Logistics Mangement and I worked in the Supply career field while in the military. I also love computers and have assembled my own and helped many others fix theirs, so anything in those related areas would be fine (I say all this toungue firmly entrenched in cheek). As a result of all these actions, I will be going off line for quite some time. When I come back from Saudi I will not be resubscribing to all my mail lists but will wait until I get settled into a more permanent household. That could be as much as 9-12 months from now. My web site will stay up until the end of this year but then I will have to drop it as well because I will be moving and not have an ISP to load it on. My wife will be monitoring my e-mail but after that I will only be using my hotmail account. All of you have been wonderful. Thank you for letting me "steal" your genealogy from you and hopefully you have been able to "steal" some from me. I will saving all your e-mail addresses and will probably send something like this out again in Decemeber before we finally move. I apoligize if some of you get this twice as a result of a personal e-mail and a mail list e-mail. I have been active on many lists and want to touch all the bases to make sure the word gets out. So long, take care, and good luck. Chris..... Chris Schultheis e-mail: [email protected] home page: http://www.zianet.com/schulthe/home.htm

    1. [NCSURRY-L] John, Peter and Thomas Wood - SC/NC 1790-1820
    2. Brett Woods
    3. I would appreciate any information on the following family: William Wood, born about 1793 in York County SC. Married a Mary Magdalena Ruppe (father supposedly a Martin Roop) born about 1800 in Surry County NC. Children (all born in Surry County NC): 1. Thomas Wood, born 1825 2. Henry Wood, born 1827 3. Williamson Wood, born 1829 4. William Wood, born 1831 5. James Wood, born 1837 In 1790, there were three Wood heads of households enumerated in York County SC Census, all in the Camden District: John Wood (p 194) Penuel Wood (p 192) NOTE: Depending upon the source, he is also known as Peter Thomas Wood (p 198) Between 1800 and 1810, these three seem to float around Western SC mostly in Spartanburg County. However by 1820, they appear to have left SC and show up enumerated in the 1820 Surry County NC Census: John Wood (p 676) Peter Wood (p 668) Thomas Wood (p 736) What I would like to determine is exactly which of the three (John, Peter or Penuel, or perhaps Thomas) is the father of the William who married Mary Magdelena. Thanks for any help. Brett F. Woods Santa Fe, New Mexico

    1. [NCSURRY-L] Marriage Lookup please
    2. I am trying to verify whether my ancestor, Gamaliel Bryant (also often referred to as Elder G. Briant), was briefly in Surry Co. NC in the mid 1850's. He was a preacher of the Missionary Baptist faith. I'm told he was there performing marriages in about 1854 or 1855. Can anyone look through a marriage book for those years and tell me if he appears to be performing marriages there at that time? Thanks for your help! Lorien Gunsallus
