    3. You also might want to look in Yadkin County, at least for the Shore family. Yadkin Co. broke off from Surry County in 1850. Besides the Courthouse in Yadkinville, you might want to check out the public library in Yadkinville. They have a nice little genealogy room. I know there are a couple of published books in there on the Shore family. I am a descendent of Friedrich Schor (later it became Shore) who seems to be the immigrant ancestor of virtually all of the Shores in the area. 2. Royce: Yes there are Lowes in Low Gap. My relatives are there. I'm not sure if the origin of the name has anything to do with the family (probably not). There are many, many Lowes in both Surry Co., NC and Grayson Co., VA. I have many Goodson, Carson and other relatives that married Lowes. It seems to be impossible to figure out how all the Lowes are connected. So far I have not found an Abraham Lowe. Wish I could be of more help. Jeanene

    3. Hi Royce, There are Lowes in Wilkes Co., NC (Lowe's Food, Lowe's Home Improvement Stores). I am not certain about the origin of Low Gap, but I imagine it refers the the topography than a surname. A lot of things in the hills were named for what they looked like. 3. David, The court house is on the main st of Dobson - can't be missed. It occupies a center square. If you are interested in the Surry heritage books, they can be purchased there. Surry court house is a joy. Documents are well kept and suprememly organized. Bud Cameron, the "head" - can't remember his title - is a genealogist. Have fun.
