    3. Hi, I am beginning to research my maternal lines. Below are snippets of descendant outlines as I know them. I would like to be in contact with others who are researching or have knowledge of these lines, and especially relatives I've never known of before. In a few cases below I haven't gotten the dates yet, but will, I didn't want to wait though, to get this posted. I'd also like to push back in time beyond the heads of these outlines, I understand that the Hayes line for instance came from Virginia, but I have no details. 3. Hello Harold, Is this the same David Cockerham I have, b.Nov 25, 1763 in Lunnenburg Co., VA., d. May 26, 1856 in Surry Co., NC and is buried in the Jones Cockerham cemetary in Zyphyr, NC? David married Mary Ann Burch abt 1790 in Surry Co., NC. Many of Davids children did change their surname to Cockrum. After his father, John, died David moved to Surry NC from Lunnenburg VA in 1771 with his uncles Moses and William. David was a Rev War vet and fought in place of his uncle Moses. I also would be interested in anyone else with info on the Cockerhams and Burches of Surry County. Glenn E. 1. [NCSURRY] Abraham Wood, Jr., of Surry NC
    2. Nancy Pfannenstiel
    3. I am trying to run down Abraham Wood, son of Abraham Wood. They are listed as such on the 1774-75 tax list of Surry County, NC. Abraham Wood, Sr. was one of the earliest settlers in the area that became Surry. He is listed on a 1768 Rowan county, NC tax list. Abraham Sr. died ca 1788 in Surry. On 13 Aug 1788 Abraham Wood grants power of attorney to Air Hudspeth, Jr. to collect debts. I do not know if this is Abraham Jr. or Sr. The Administrator of Abrahams estate was his son-in-law, Jesse Scott, which suggest that his son Abraham, Jr. had perhaps moved on by this time. Abrahams other known son, Obediah moved about this time to Greenville County, SC, with his in-laws, the Charles. About 1810, Jesse and Fanny Wood Scott moved to the Overton County area of TN, but were members of the McFarlands Creek Church in Monroe County, with other family members, and other former residents of Surry County. On the Mill Creek Church list, 1799 - 1806 for what is now Monroe County, Ky are the following with the surname Wood:. Thomas Abraham Polly Bartholemew Elizabeth John Thomas Betty, Sr. Betty, Jr. Could this be Abraham Wood, Jr. of Surry county, NC? 1. [NCSURRY] Estate of Jesse Kerr
    2. Nancy Pfannenstiel
    3. I'm on the Kerr list also, and someone was trying to track a Jesse Kerr. maybe someone in Surry knows who this mystery man is??? For those of you interested, you can order the estate file of Jesse Kerr, d. ca 1815 in Surry co. from the NC Archives for $8. I have never seen him on a census or a tax list for Surry, until his estate was taxed. On Nov 11, 1815, Absolom Kerr (son of Alexander Kerr), was appointed to be admin of estate of Jesse Kerr, who died intestate. Absolom was born c1770. John Hall and William Scott are bondsman, they are neighbors of Absolom. Jesse owned a bed an furniture, some grain, collards, cotton, a chest and wearing clothes, a bee gum, 4 gal of honey, a keg, some pewter, a plow, 1 pot and hook, a horse and bridle, bell and horse collar, a smooth gun, 2 baskets, one ink stand (so he must have been literate) a cask of cider, a fiddle, a water pail and tray,a fur hat and a wool hat, one pr of shoes, a razor, some bees wax, a fife, some potatoes and some books (again, he must have been literate.) Notice there are none of the things we associate with women, such as a loom, churn, etc On the 1815 tax list for Surry are these Kerrs: Absolom 560 acres 1 wh poll $50 Ruben (bro of Absolom), 200 acres, 1 wh poll, $250--both these listed on Bean Shole Creek, which is now NE Yadkin Co. there is a William Kerr listed, don't know who he is, no acreage, location or valuation These 3 Kerrs on Bailey Creek(this is Absolom and Reuben's father, and their two sisters) Alexander Kerr 540 acres, $400 Shubeth [Elizabeth] 100 a $50 Sarah 100 acres, $50. 1816 tax list lists Alexander, Elizabeth, Sarah, Absolom and Reuben Kerr, with no changes in info, William Kerr is gone from the list (is he aka Jesse?) and then" Kerr, Absalom, Adm. for Jesse Kerr, Dec'd. 50 a next to Thomas Hall, (which is also Absolom's neighbor, so I assume Jesse and Absolom were neighbors, and some sort of relation, although they are not bros.) the 1817 tax lists lists same Kerrs, along with "Jesse Kerr Heirs", but no mention of who that is...I assume Absolom, 50 acres, near Thomas Hall, $110. 1818 Tax List Lists Alexander, Absolom, and Reuben Kerr, and under Absolom, "ditto for Jesse Kerrs Heirs" 53 acres, $100. (the Kerrs are continued on another page which my friend did not xerox, so I assume Sarah and Elizabeth Kerr are on another page) On the 1819 tax list is Alexander, Reuben, Absolom, Sally and Elizabeth, so I assume the estate of Jesse Kerr was settled by then. Hope this helps someone, Nancy __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Talk to your friends online with Yahoo! Messenger. http://im.yahoo.com

    1. [NCSURRY] Hyatt/Draughn Families
    2. Linda Hatherley
    3. I am searching for my great grandparents who left Surry Co, NC around 1900 and moved to Virginia (around Wise County and Scott County): My great grandfather was Thomas Hyatt (spelling may have been changed) born in Surry County, NC (sorry no dates). My great grandmother was Lillie/Lydia Draughn (sorry no dates). They had the following Children: Mary Hyatt married Barney Sword 7/07/1917 in Wise County, Virginia. Note on the marriage record at the Wise County Courthouse the mother is listed as Lillie Hyatt. Sarah Hyatt Bill Hyatt George Wilson Hyatt married Emma Victoria Culbertson George was born Feb. 28, 1889 died Feb. 02, 1965. George is my grandfather and he remembered moving from N.C. to the mountains of Virginia in a covered wagon. He said he was a young boy, but he was old enough to remember the move. This is why I believe they moved somewhere between 1895 and 1900. I am looking for any information I can find on my great grandparents. It has been said that Thomas Hyatt's father or grandfather came over from Germany on a fishing vessel. It seems that he was a fisherman by trade and loaded his family up on the boat the night before. The next morning he left (as going to work) and never returned to Germany. If this is the case then I don't know that there would be a record of his arrival in America. We were always told that he landed in North Carolina (whether this is true or not I don't know). If anyone has any information please contact me at [email protected] Thank you so much.
