    1. [NCSTOKES-L] 1815 Tax List, Stokes

    3. Hi all, I just purchased the Stokes Co. 1815 Tax List (Annotated Transcriptions) by Jo White Linn (privately published), through Amazon.com, for $20. It has helped me with my research quite a lot, and I'd like to share. The names are indexed by last name only and the 66-age book is divided by "district." I'm willing to do look ups in this book, as long as you provide me with as specific information as possible (such as first name, last name, and district, whenever you have it.) The information it provides includes head of household, how many white or black "polls" are in the household, acreage owned and how much it is worth. It is presented alphabetically, so the makeup of the "neighborhood" is not reflected, (other than that certain names appear in the same district). If anyone has access to any Stokes County tax records after 1815 (but not beyond 1827), and wouldn't mind looking up my Foster TILLEY, and others of the same surname in the same district (Stone Chimney) as well as any VERNONs in the same district, I would be very grateful. Sincerely, Karla Tipton
