In 1786 Stokes co. was part of Surrey Co. There is a Surrey Co. tax list plus a state census of 1786. In the Surrey Co Tax list there are THREE Holbrook, two in Hills District. In the state census only ONE is enumerated. At the end of it, in someone else's district three names ( not Holbrook) are marked and a note is given that they are in Hills District. Otherwise, I cannot find any Hills District in the State census. Does anyone know if it is located elsewhere or if it was omitted/lost?
