I've been researching Vernons in Stokes County, and my direct line intermarried with the Cox family -- which may or may not help you. But here's what I have. My source is Julie Vernon, at [email protected] The Cox family was among the first at the Caldwell Settlement (Presbyterian, I think) at Cub Creek, Virginia. In approximately the 1760s, Jonathan Vernon (my ancester) married Mary Cox, daughter of Frederick Cox (who was married to Mildred Estes, daughter of Robert Estes) of Stokes County. Frederick Cox was the son of John Cox and the grandson of William Cox. All of this info I got secondhand. If this is the same family, I would appreciate anything you could share on them.
