    3. Hi: To those who are researching STAFFORD Families that lived In Stokes CO, NC. I assume you also are interested in those STAFFORDs who earlier lived in Rowan or Surry CO before that area became part of Stokes and, later, Forsyth CO. I have listed below info re my STAFFORD ancestors in hope that your STAFFORD connections may be related to them -- or, if not, that you may have info to share concerning them. My earliest known STAFFORD ancestor is JAMES STAFFORD (1786-1849) who I believe MAY be the "James Stafford" listed in the 1820 Stokes CO census. If so, he would have been 33/35 yrs old at that time. He also MAY be the " James Stafford "found in the 1830 Stokes CO "Head of Household" census list. I also believe my JAMES STAFFORD's parents may have been JOHN ("JACK") STAFFORD (1756-1846 and LYDIA (1765-1840)-last name unknown. A "John Stafford" is listed in the 1820 Stokes census and, also, in the 1830 Stokes CO "Head of Household" census (page 99). If that "John Stafford" was the father of my JAMES STAFFORD, then my JOHN ("JACK") STAFFORD would have been 63/65 yrs old in 1820 and 73/75 yrs old in 1830. My JAMES STAFFORD married ELIZABETH MONROE(1789-1849). They had 10 children that I know of. Their first child was JOHN MONROE STAFFORD (1813-1877), my great grandfather, who was born, I am told, in Stokes CO. Having been born in 1813, I believe he would have been too young to have been listed by name in the 1820 and 1830 Census. Do you agree? . JOHN MONROE STAFFORD married MARY ELIZABETH "POLLY" BOOE (1824-1868) and, together, they had 11 children that I know of, one of which was my grandfather, LEO WASHINGTON STAFFORD (1860-1941). Several years after MARY ELIZABETH BOOE died, JOHN MONROE STAFFORD married ESTHER PEELER. They had two children (daughters) that I know of before JOHN MONROE STAFFORD died in 1877. JOHN MONROE STAFFORD, his first wife MARY ELIZABETH and most of their children are buried at Pleasant Fork Cemetery near Winston-Salem, NC. I will greatly appreciate any info you may have--or, if not, any ideas concerning how I may locate info regarding the above individuals. I also will be happy to furnish you all of the info I have regarding the families of JAMES AND JOHN MONROE STAFFORD and their descendants. I wish you a healthy/prosperous 1999 !!!
