I am interested in hearing from any of the Thomas Family who lived in Stokes Country before it was split and part became Forsyth County. I am interested in hearing from Thomas family that settled near Midway and near Thomasville. I am looking for parents of Nicholas Thomas. Nicholas was born in Maryland around 1794 and married Mary Ann (Polly) Morris in Randolph Co. They lived in the Piney Grove section near Thomasville for some time. Their son, William, lived in the Abbots Creek area. My Email address is [email protected] Mary Thomas
Hi, I want to thank everyone who sent sites on this, I have copied many things to sit and read at my leisure. I will be leaving in the morning for my sister's house in Reidsville so we can attend a Feast Saturday night. Can't hardly wait to go! Denise Wood
I am looking for information on my gr grandfather Ezekiel Graham, bn 1/1/1810 NC. He married Susannah G. Jones (bn 6/2/1816,NC) on 12/4/1834. This information came out of the old family bible, but does not give the place of birth or parents. The census records shows that the first child was born in Tenn on 1/17/1836, Where ? The second was born in Marshall County, Miss on 8/11/1837 where they settled and raised their family. I have not been able to find where they lived in NC or Tenn, or who their parents were. Does anyone have anything on them? thanks Glendon Graham

Hi everyone, I am pleased to announce the MORAVIANCHURCH-L mailing list at RootsWeb. The world-wide Moravian Church is the oldest Protestant denomination. This list is an exchange of Moravian records, genealogies, references and historical information. The Moravians began their work in North Carolina in 1753. Together, we will attempt to trace the early NC settlers back to Pennsylvania and to their European origins in the Moravian Church. If you would like to join, please send a message with subscribe (and nothing else) to: [email protected] mail mode [email protected] digest mode Susan Schlack, http://www.enter.net/~smschlack
All lists hosted by Rootsweb were recently made SUBSCRIBER ONLY lists. The reason for this was the volume of Spam that was being sent through Rootsweb lists. The amount of effort by the Rootsweb folks required to block this Spam was really getting out of hand. Closing the lists to subscribers became a matter of self-preservation. This should have no impact on you as you are a subscriber or you would not be receiving this message. There are possible exceptions though. Some folks will subscribe to a mailing list with one e-mail address, and then try to post with another e-mail address. If this is you, or you experience any problems at all, please contact me for a work around. Elizabeth Harris [email protected] state coordinator for NCGenWeb: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncgenweb/

I have spent 20 years tracing all descendants of the Pegram family. There are many early families in the Stokes Co., NC area that married into the Pegram family. I would love to hear from anyone who has a Pegram in their lineage. If you want to see if your family has an early Pegram link, please check out my Pegram website which is http://www.patch.net I have a search program online that you can use to check for your lines. I see the Stokes County list is very active so I have high hopes that some here may have additional information. Thanks, Nola Pegram Duffy [email protected] http://www.patch.net

I have a marriage bond in Surry Co. NC for Caleb Cotton and Nancy Meredith 16 Nov 1801. Witness William Meredith and bondsman Thomas C. Burch. It is believed that Nancy is related to the family of William Meredith and Ann Bond Meredith of Surry Co. NC. William Meredith was a Captain at the Battle of Kings Mtn and the son of James Meredith Sr and Mildred Bagby Meredith. I believe that Nancy Meredith may have been the daughter of James B. Meredith who was possibly a son of William and Ann (Bond) Meredith. I would be interested in sharing information regarding these families: MEREDITH, BOND, BAGBY, BURCH, and also COTTON Thank You & Happy Holidays .:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:.
In the 1850 Madison County Missouri census my gggp Noble Johnson said he was born in NC. Ten years later he was only 8 years older and born in SC. Checking the 1790 listing of heads of family I find one of two David Johnsons (Noble's father) in the Salisbury district of Stokes County, showing one young son, 4 free white females. Noble was born in 1796, and in 1823 when David died in Cape Girardeau County MO, the family was Margaret, David's wife, Constant, Ransom, Sarah, Jonathan, Davis, Noble, William, and Willey Emmy. Well, actually the estate papers said Willey Emmy had married a Baker and had died so her share went to her children. Church papers indicate that David Johnson probably joined the Bethel Baptist church at Jackson MO about 1812. There is a David Johnson in the Christian County KY census of 1810 with the right count of children. If Constant was a girl, this 1 1 4 0 0 Stokes entry could match, or if one of the females was a mother or mother-in-law. Its likely Jonathan, Ransom, and Davis were older than Noble because Jonathan died in 1830, Ransom before 1847, and Davis before 1857. I don't have birth dates for them. My question is: does this David Johnson family show in the 1800 census, and the 1810 census or later? Does anyone know of this David Johnson family and their movements? Any deed activity hinting at them moving away from Stokes County? Gerald

Hello! My grandfather was DeMoss Everette DeLANE (18??-1953). His father was Alvin DeLANE (18??-1865?), and his father was Allen DeLANE (dates unknown). I am searching for information about any of these three men. DeMoss was supposed to be a Moravian, and he is not buried with his family in Lincoln County, so I am thinking he might be buried in Winston-Salem(?) Have anyone on this list heard of this family, or have any good ideas for me? I will appreciate any and all help. Thank you very much! Elaine Griner [email protected]
Read Jerry Hicks inquirey. I have gotten back to 1847 on my 'Brown" family surname (so far all is ok and inline), but family lore (my grandfather, latest, now deceased) states that the family surname "Brown" should be "Hicks/Hixs! An earlier ancestor (unknown who/when) was orphaned and taken in by a Brown family and assumed the Brown family name as he grew up (family name today still). Any Hicks/Hixs out there lost a family? Traced back to Noah Wilson Brown who marries in Stokes Co, NC 1847. Before that unknwn and so far haven't found anything to help find his parents. Margaret in Ca. [email protected]
