John Moved to Cumberland co.NC.(land grants recorded in 1755 in that co.) John was appointed Sheriff in 1756,Coroner and was an Officier(Justice) of the Court most of the time be 1760-1772,approved to maintain a Tavern/Hotel in 1762. In 1771/1773 John and family moved to the St.Paul'Parrish section of colonial Ga. John and son,John jr.are shown in Court Records as registering land grants in what is now Columbia/Richmond counties along Kiokee creek and the Savannah River.St Paul's Parish was later divided into wilkes/Richmond/Columbia/Elbert/Taliferro/Oglethorpe/Cherokee/Lincoln counties. John's death was in 1775?and prior to a 1790 census which shows Ann residing alone in Richmond co.Ga. sons of John and Ann were: John Stewart jr.bc.1740 New Bern,NC dc.1785 (Capt.John Stewart Rev.war,killed by an Indian raiding party.)
