Seeking information on the AMERICAN HISTORICAL COMPANY, INC. of New York. In 1949 they published a book or booklet entitled "Bellingrath and Allied Families:A Genealogical Study with Biographical Notes" which was compiled by Mrs.Theodore Leon (Maude Smith) Bellingrath (1890-1954) of Little Rock, AK. The book had chapters on various North Carolina families including: McKay, McNeill, Smith, and Graham. The Bellingrath family was originally from Germany and moved to this country in the 1840's. They were in Cumberland Co., North Carolina in the 1850's, where members married into Scot families, and then moved through Georgia before coming to Alabama and other states. I am interested in learning if the AMERICAN HISTORICAL COMPANY is still in business. Was it or is it a reputable genealogical research firm? Are copies of the publications that they produced still available? Is there a listing of this company's genealogical and historical publications? Is anyone familiar with this company? I have found a few references to the AMERICAN HISTORICAL COMPANY on the Internet as late as the mid 1960's. And finally I am looking for a copy of the 1949 publication on "Bellingrath and Allied Families". Thanks in advance for any information that anyone may have on this company.
