Hello Everyone, I am here as I am everyday working diligently at the tasks of genealogy at hand. I just seem to be doing the old one step forward two steps back. I found out the real name of my Great Grandfather DANIEL LUTHER McGILLVRAY.Not DANIEL RUTH. Good right? Social Security application of my Grandmother his daughter and his death certificate. I found DANIEL LUTHER McGILVRAY! The problem is this one is born in 1829 married Harriette Marley in 1851. This is not good. But,he married her in Barbour County Alabama . And the ancestors I am looking for are from Alabama. By the way he was from North Carolina my ancestors started out from Scotland and went to North Carolina. I am thinking this is it.Wrong.I can account for all of the children of the Daniel that I found. Except an O. J. McGILVRAY.The only thing on him is his birth date 1852. All of the other children were born in Barbour County. So,I am assuming that he was too. It is to early for a birth certificate. I cannot find him on a census. I cannot find any of the family in any of the cemeteries in any of the counties that they are supposed to be buried in. This is a big if.But,if O.J.is my Great Grandfathers Father. And he named his son after his Father DANIEL LUTHER McGILVRAY.And I am pretty sure this is the way that it happened. Because in all of these months I have found tons of Daniel McGilvrays . But no Daniel Luther McGilvrays . And especially from North Carolina to Alabama. I might have a chance to find out more. But,I am not sure how to go about it. I know that the first Daniel died in the civil war in Atlanta. I do not know what regiment. How do I go about finding out if Hariette got a pension from him? Could someone please advise me how to find some sort of record on O.J. it hard without a name only O.J. Two of siblings moved to Texas and I have where they died and who they married. I will check there for them. Please tell me what do I do next? Help,Help,Help. Warmest Regards, Patty
