My fellow NC-SCOTS readers, I am not the administrator of this list...just a subscriber. However, there appear to be several people on here who are inexperienced at working with listservs. Since I am just a fellow reader, you are under no obligation to follow my advice. However, be aware that you may be annoying several people by continuing certain habits. If you wish to please the rest of us AND shorten your mail download, feel free to follow these suggestions: 1) If you wish to unsubscribe, please do not send such listserv commands to the general message distribution address. The whole subscriber base receives your request and it doesn't work anyway. When you subscribed, more than likely you received a FAQ file which details how to maintain your subscription. (Sending your "unsubscribe" request to the message list multiple times doesn't make work any better than the first time.) 2) If you are sending a reply to one specific person and no one else has any interest in it (i.e., the "free issue" responses with mailing addresses), please make sure to send it directly to the originator. By default, when you hit "reply" on a listserv message, the list address is filled in your destination field. On most e-mail programs, you can hit "reply to all" and delete the list address from the destination field. That will leave only the person you wish to send it to. All these "me too" messages get distributed to every single subscriber, which lengthens their mail downloads and takes up much more server space than it should. 3) If you are a digest subscriber, as I am, please change the subject of your replies to something appropriate to your message. Like many people, I subscribe to the digest version because my spare time is at a premium and this allows me to browse the messages for anything of interest. When you leave a subject like "Re: Digest 1234", it will probably get skipped by many digest subscribers. I hope this helps make the listserv experience more pleasurable for all of us...
