Haven't sent anything in for a while, but maybe there are some new subscribers out there who haven't seen my query yet. I'm looking for my ggg-grandmother Dorothy McDONALD, parents unknown, birth date and place unknown. The following information comes from my family's tradition. She was first married to Capt. ALLEN of Georgetown SC in the first decade of the 1800's, and they had a son John ALLEN. Capt. ALLEN was "lost at sea". In 1810 she married my ggg-grandfather William GOODMAN (b. ca. 1784-86, NC or perhaps SC, parents unknown) somewhere in NC. They had the following children: James Newell, b. ca. 1811 NC William Henry, b. ca. 1815 NC, d. ca. 4/30/1857 Augusta GA Susan Ann, b. ca. 1816 NC Mary J., b. ca. 1817 Greeneville TN Robert McAlpin (my gg-grandfather), b. 3/16/1820 Greeneville TN, d. 12/27/1906 Marietta GA Samuel M., b. ca. 1825 Greeneville TN, d. ca. 5/11/1862 Augusta GA (There may have been another daughter b. ca. 1821, possibly named Borneta(??), who was buried on 8/18/29 in Augusta GA. At least there was a grave for her, although I wonder if "Borneta" wasn't supposed to be "born to" or something like that.) Dorothy died on 4/2/1825 in Greeneville TN (possibly in childbirth - note that Samuel was born that year). William GOODMAN and the children (probably including stepson John ALLEN) had moved to Augusta GA by 1826. All my known relatives are descended from Robert McAlpin GOODMAN; so far I have been unable to identify any contemporary descendants of any of his siblings, although I have some information about their marriages and children (related family names are ALLEN, PAYNE, HITT and BROWN(E)). So my question is, has anyone out there ever heard of a Dorothy McDONALD (or Dorothy McDonald ALLEN) in SC or NC in the period 1780-1810, and could they connect her to a known McDONALD family? Dorothy seems to have been a fairly unusual name in that time period. Bob Goodman Marietta GA
