Just finished three interesting books and I thought some of you might like to know about them. FERRY TALES OF ARGYLL AND THE ISLES by Walter Weyndling -- the history, as well as anecdotes from locals, of the ferry boats that ply the waters of the western isles; also pictures. THE ISLE OF JURA - MEMORIES OF THE PAST by Gordon Wright -- old photos & some beautiful new ones, too; reminiscences of life on the island at the beginning of this century; THE ISLE OF ISLAY - LOOKING BACK compiled by Margot Perrons of The Museum of Islay Life -- my favorite! a pictorial; wonderful old photos of places and people...... from 1890 to the 1950's; some of you may see the faces of some of your ancestors looking back at you........pastoral villages, thatched cottages, pipers and everyday life as it once was; McKinnons, McKays, Curries, Campbells, McDougalls & many, many more locals and/or their houses.
