It does for the most part cover the North Carolina area. I did see is your names were listed . I am sorry they were not. Best Regards, Patty
Hello list, I am curious, does "Carolina Scots" only cover costal North Carolina, or could other counties be included? I am trying to find out more about my LASHLEY ancestors; so far I am only able to trace them to Orange and Caswell counties. William Madison LASHLEY, born Orange Co. 1805, married Mary Elizabeth Pendergrass (Prendergast) in Caswell Co. 11 Oct. 1838. Her sister Elizabeth married Powell Lashley, possibly William's brother. In the will of George Prendergast (1851), father of Mary and Elizabeth, William and Powell's last names were LESLIE, which I believe to be the correct surname and the origin of the bastardization - LASHLEY. I have worked on this line for a while with no success. Would appreciate any insight. Thanks so much, Alicia
Hi, I hope that all of the people that I had their names in the book. Got their answers. And for all of those whose names were not in the book. I am very sorry. The response was over welming. But,it was a great pleasure to be able to find some of your families. I hope that you all get all of the answers that you are searching for. And that includes me. For the ones that would like me to now scan your pages for you out of the book. I would be glad to do so tomorrow. Just make sure to send me your surnames. I can't remember all of the ones that I said that I would do that for. I would do it today, but,I am totally exausted.I did a little antique shopping today in between. Happy Hunting, Patty
Seeking information on the AMERICAN HISTORICAL COMPANY, INC. of New York. In 1949 they published a book or booklet entitled "Bellingrath and Allied Families:A Genealogical Study with Biographical Notes" which was compiled by Mrs.Theodore Leon (Maude Smith) Bellingrath (1890-1954) of Little Rock, AK. The book had chapters on various North Carolina families including: McKay, McNeill, Smith, and Graham. The Bellingrath family was originally from Germany and moved to this country in the 1840's. They were in Cumberland Co., North Carolina in the 1850's, where members married into Scot families, and then moved through Georgia before coming to Alabama and other states. I am interested in learning if the AMERICAN HISTORICAL COMPANY is still in business. Was it or is it a reputable genealogical research firm? Are copies of the publications that they produced still available? Is there a listing of this company's genealogical and historical publications? Is anyone familiar with this company? I have found a few references to the AMERICAN HISTORICAL COMPANY on the Internet as late as the mid 1960's. And finally I am looking for a copy of the 1949 publication on "Bellingrath and Allied Families". Thanks in advance for any information that anyone may have on this company. Hi All, I'm new to the list and searching for family connections between the ASHLEY and WHITE surnames. The WHITE family line goes back to Moses White, about 1665 in Scotland. Somewhere in Virginia, it picks up an Ashley connection and continues in North Carolina, specifically Anson County, Orange County and Iredell County. This is one of two brickwalls that I need an answer to. If anyone on this mailing list knows of a specific marriage between a White and an Ashley, would you please let me know for I truly am hunting a needle in a haystack. Best regards, Jane Ashley Benson
Patty, Thank you very much for your offer. Do you or anyone else have information on William Duncan, who came from Scotland to work the forges, five miles from Mill Creek, North Carolina in the early 1800s? He and his wife Mary (Crockett) Duncan had at least three sons, William, David and George. He was a foreman for the Perkins' forge. Thanks for any information at all. I checked out their site. While it looks very interesting (if it ever gets out from under constuction), did I miss what you are refering to? There are a number of phone numbers in Scotland and addresses and some email addresses, but I didn't find any information on the site concerning family history. While I can see the advantage of know about this library if you might visit Scotland, could you tell me if they will help with research via email or do they refer you to a professional genealogist in the area? thanks AmyAnn Sacklester@aol.com wrote: > Hello, > > Here is a site which has a great deal of information for those of us still > tracing our ancestors in Scotland. > > http://www.glasgow.gov.uk/gcl/ref.htm > > <A HREF="http://www.glasgow.gov.uk/gcl/ref.htm">Reference Services at the > Mitchell Library > </A> > > Thanks > John Lester > > ==== NCSCOTS Mailing List ==== > If you would like to help RootsWeb Genealogical Data Cooperative > by becoming a member, sponsor, donor, or patron, please visit: > http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/how-to-subscribe.html
