I am looking for information about my Dalrymple line. I do not have much to go on as I have recently gotten involved with this. My Great Grandmother's name was Margaret Ann Dalrymple. She married Hugh Thomas Morris. They lived in Jonesboro, North Carolina (Now Sanford). Any help will be appreciated. Thank you Rhonda Morris Tucker samsmom@marinemwr.or.jp
Has anyone tried GOOGLE, the search engine? [http://www.google.com/ ] This is a new one to me, but it seems VERY fast and apparently finds things in good fashion. It found list of 10 sites. Not sure if what it found directly applies however. K. Well, I certainly seem to have hit a nerve with this list -- seems as if there are a bunch of us frustrated by an inability to locate those Covenanter prisoner lists<G>. In addition to those posting to the website, I'm also getting private emails requesting that I share anything that I receive. I promise everyone, I will. Meanwhile, check milleriw's response. Dan, Stuart or Stewart was the last royal house of Scotland. The only connection I can see with Dana might be a relationship to the Dana Danu or People of Dana, who was the Celtic mother goddess. I know of no Scots king name Dana, although their might have been a pre-Scottish lord by that name. I say lord because prior to a Scots king I don't think anyone pretended toward kingship of all Scotland. Even afterwards it was a pretense until England got control. I have four friends who just stayed two nights with me in a rented house in Banner Elk, NC. Eight of us went to the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games the week after July 4th. They are all researching family surnames and would like to get on your mailing list. Two are in to Scottish history and one writes it. Well, since there's not a VASCOTS list, and since a lot of Virginia Scots moved into NC (including my Abernathys), and since this list is about Scots, I'm hoping someone can help. My many times g-grandfather, Robert Abernathy, presumably arrived in this country as a prisoner of war. According to materials I've read, Robert was one of 1610 Scot prisoners of war shipped to America by the year 1652, in Robert's case, to Jamestown. He was probably captured at either the Battle of Dunbar in 1650, or the battle of Worcester on Sept 3, 1651. There was a "delay" in transporting the Dunbar captives (and it's a sad story!), so probably both sets of prisoners would have arrived in very late 1651 or 1652. Does anyone know where there might be any or all of the following: 1) A list of the Covenanter prisoners taken at Dunbar and/or Worcester 2) The names of the ships that transported the Scots prisoners to Virginia in 1652, and 3) whether ship "passenger" or prisoner lists exist for those ships? I've checked most of the online usual suspects in terms of ship and passenger lists, with no luck. There's not too much online at all about the battle of Dunbar, and nothing on Worcester. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Regards -- Judy

I am looking for the parents of Duncan McKenzie b circa 1795 married Barbara McLauren and resided in NC until about 1832 when they moved to Mississippi. They had at least five sons and one daughter( likely more ). One daughter is buried in Old Stewartsville cemetary near Laurenburg NC. Duncan was the ward of Kenneth McKenzie according to records in NC. His father may have been Roderick McKenzie but I can find no trace of that individual. Thanks---John McKenzie

My g grandfather William Sandford (Sand) Paxton was married to Margaret Ann McLeod. She was from Charlotte in Mecklenberg County and according to my mother there was a house on Tryon that was the home of her g grandjparents. My grandfather was John McLeod Paxton. My mother says that he and his brother Thomas (nicknamed Os) went to Texas with McLeod cousins around the turn of the century and we had the trunk he took with him until just recently. My grandfather got ill and came back to North Carolina where my g grandfather caught what he had and died. His brother Os stayed working in Texas for awhile and then migrated to Oregon ending up in Seattle with a medical degree. I don't know anything more about the McLeods. Does anyone else know anything" Thanks
To complicate matters for ya'll, think of this. Although this may not pertain to your Douglas(s), it did to several. Frederick Douglass, black abolitionist and newspaper editor, became a role model for several individuals. Some of those, whose surname was Douglas, started adding the second s to their name to be like Frederick. I like to think that abolitionists of all races whose surname was Douglas practiced this 'variation.' Hello, Can anyone give me some background on where the Lowes that lived in North Carolina, particularly Low Gap, came from? Are the North Carolina Lowes generally from Scotland? And, when did they come to the U.S. ? My Great-great grandfather was named Elisha Lowe, born around 1810 or 1820. He married Susan Bartley. Supposedly, they lived in Low-Gap before 1850. And, later they moved to Grayson, Virginia. They are shown in the 1850 and 1870 Grayson County, VA census indexes. Can anybody help me out? Thanks so much. Please respond to TN4law@aol.com. Thanks a bunch, ---- Mary

My great-great grandfather Manning Mahaffee was born in SC during the 1820s. My great-grandfather Patilla Golightly Mahaffee was born in SC in 1845, migrating later with his family to NC. His family included my grandfather Manning Mahaffee who purchased land in Rutherford County, NC in 1913. I am unsure of the exact date of their going to North Carolina, but would like to have all info on the Mahaffee family (shown in error in some of the censuses as Mahaffey) whether in North Carolina, emigrating to the US (whenever that was--my discovery of my roots stop in 1820). Thanks! Max G. Mahaffee; P.O. Box 816; Charleston, SC 29402
Hello, This does not have anything to do with Scottish Genealogy, but if you will look through this site, you will find a Scottish Thistle which you can enlarge among other things. I hope you enjoy it as the art work is unusual. <A HREF="http://www.mcn.net/~acflynn/clip.html">Alice's nature clip art</A> Thanks John
